Holly 650 carb

I have a holly 650, when I fired it up this weekend gas was coming out of the verticle tube in the front. I think this is due to a stuck float. Is this correct? I smacked it with a screwdriver a few times and that did not work. Do I need to remove the bowls, or can I just adjust them with the screw on top of the bowls?

I have had many "Holley" Carbs do this after sitting , here is a little trick to see if its just dirt in the Needle and Seat. Find the fuel line from the frame to the pump , pinch it off and lock it with a small pair of "Vise-Grip" pliers. Start the engine and hold the throttle about 2000 rpm , when the engine starts to die pump the gas and try to keep it running , when it dies , remove the "Vise-Grip" pliers from the fuel line , Start the engine , as the fresh fuel blast back into the carb to refill it some times it can remove any dirt cusing the problem you described.

If Not you will have to remove the front fuel bowl , clean the needle and seat , check and reset the float level , small sight plug on passenger's side of carb is where you check for proper float level (with engine running), unlocking the big screw on the top of the bowl and turning the 5/8 nut clockwise lowers the fuel level , turning counter clockwise raises the level , hopefuly you will not have to go that far , let me know if this helps...Good Luck.
