turn signal question

What specifically (as in what part inside the column) would cause the left turn signal not to cancel whan coming out of a corner? Right signal is fine. Parts all looked good when I replaced the bad parts that were in there (signals did not work at all, plastic piece was broken within the column).

Signals both work...it is just not cancelling for lefts.

Could it be a bad part, or something installed incorrectly?

I believe this usually turns out to be one of two things. Either the plastic turn signal switch under the steering wheel has one side broken. Looks like you have that covered. The other involveds someone disassembling the top end of the steering box without marking the output shaft. the end of the shaft that goes into the box can go in at any position, but the end your steering shaft connects to will only go on one way. It's a pain in the butt to fix, and I can't remember the best way because I learned about it in collage. Thats way back these days. Is you wheel off center? even if it is you can be a full turn out. does it cancel if you turn the wheel all the way, or not at all?

You need as new turn signal cancel spring. There is one for each direction. If you take the wheel off and look at the top of your t/s switch, I think you will find one missing.

They run well under a dollar at the dealership. Just snap the new one into place. It will mirror the other one, so you will be able to see what it looks like when installed preoperly.

I just had this happen as well (...worked fine for 174,000 miles and suddenly just stopped working within the last month). I'll pull it apart and take a look at it.

You can also pick them up at most auto parts houses, in the "Help" section, just bought a pair for a couple of bucks, and it is an easy fix.

Thanks guys; it was a missing spring for the LH side.

Couple bucks for a new spring and that took care of it. The only trickery was (a) pulling the steering wheel (I made my own puller) and (b) pulling the lock plate off the top of the column.

I also cleaned up the steering wheel and repainted the column while I was at it (oh - and also found a broken wire in the turn signal stalk, which is probably why the cruise doesn't work).
