73gmc won't start
Hi, thanks for the info. As far as i know the #1 plug was on a cmpress stroke
when we tested TDC. The timing is a problem since i installed a liquid h-balancer. The markings are different from the orig. I have been moving the dist to diff pos adv and retard to start. Backfires thru carb. Thats where i am now. Hope this helps, thanks in advance. frankyjoet |

Try to figure out where the crank keyway is on both balancers to line them up and transfer the marks from the old one to the new one. Otherwise it's all guess work.

If you don't want to put the original pulley back on, you have to find TDC. Take an old plug, smash out the porcelean, weld in a piece of iron rod through the middle projecting about 3 inches. Trial and error may be necessary on the length. With all the plugs out, screw the rig into #1. HAND turn the engine over until the motor locks up. Mark this on the crank pulley. Turn it the opposite direction until it locks up again. Mark this on the pulley, and half way between the 2 marks is TDC. Remove the tool you made, and start working from there.
