Holley Choke Question
I have a Holley 4 bbl with an electric choke. When I start the truck and it goes to fast idle, just a light tape of the accelerator and the fast idle cam drops all the way down causing it to go to warmed-up idle and stumble and die if I don't pump the accelerator. I thought it might be a worn fast idle cam so I replaced it. Put it all back together and it still just drops right down. What the hell am I missing? What else controls the fast idle?

The fast idle cam/lever is lifted and released by the choke air valve rod. Make sure the pin holding the rod in place is there... If all that looks good then either the choke thermostat is weak (releasing too early) or the thermostat is adjusted improperly.
One other thing to check is, the fast idle lever has 2 steps on it. Make sure that all steps affect the idle speed. If its adjusted so that the fastest(tallest) step is the only one that affects the idle, then after the engine starts and you tap on the gas to allow the next step to be used, it will simply go to normal idle speed instead of hitting the 1100 mark. Adjust your fast speed to somewhere around 1800rpm (WHEN COLD) next step to 1100rpm. You'll have to play around with the 2nd step to match your driving habits. Hope this helps... ------------------ Pictures and more... Email me '71 LWB 350/350T, PS/PB Special options? Yes, RUST... Need some? Garrett Olathe, Kansas |
