Today was a good day...
Yesterday a man came into the small pharmacy that I work at and we began chatting it up about my '66 parked outside. This is an older man, probably in his 80's who I've seen many many times before, but never really had the chance to talk to. Well it turns out, his son had been real big into 60-66 chevy's before he'd passed away 10 years ago, and this man still had all of the old parts his son had collected over the years. He invited me out to have a look, so I went this morning. When I got there, we went walking around the property and began checking out what all he had scattered around. I found an old cab (with an unfortunately rotted out floor), a '66 hood, many stepside and front fenders, probably 10 good doors, including a set to a c-20, grills, gas tanks, and all sorts of other stuff. I had a lot of fun pulling this stuff out ( like I said, this man is in his 80's, so the property is really grown out), but after two hours I ended up with a really solid hood, 2 sets of front fenders, and an entire steering colomn with a nice wheel, all for a cool 30 bucks. He'd also offered all the doors for 30 bucks a piece, but I didn't snag any of those as most were not for 4-5-6 trucks. I may go back for those just for the hell of it though... you can never have to much of this stuff ( I tried explaining that to the family when I cam home with a truck full of parts this morning, but no one else seemed to agree with that )
This fella also had a really bada$$ trailer made out of a long bed stepside that his son had made. He'd said his son was a metal worker, and it showed because that trailer looked like a real professional job. it was very nice. He offered that to me for 400, and I told him I'd think about it (I wasn't sure if I thought that was a good deal or not... but I'm thinking so ) Anyways, I think the coolest deal of the day was getting to chat it up with this old fella and his wife. They were both real nice people, and all though I see them regularly, I never get to actually talk to them. My favorite part of going out and hunting for stuff like this is all the nice people you meet ( oh, and the good deals are cool too ). Jon
