My tranny won't shift
I can't get my TH350 to shift. The vacuum lines are hooked up. I took off the round cover to look at the governor gear and after dumping about 2 quarts of oil in my street I still can't figure out how to get that gear out of there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: My tranny won't shift
CSB. look at the condition of the gear on the governor. If it looks like an "apple core" the governor is binding in the bore and has to be replaced. The other gear is on the output shaft and you have to remove the tailstock to get to it, then hold the clip down and tap the gear off with a hammer. The most common failure to shift in a 350 is vac modulator followed by detent cable and lastly by the governor or a valve body problem.

Re: My tranny won't shift
So is there no way to get the governor gear out that is behind that round press on steel cover. Because I really don't want to take the tranny out of the truck.

Re: My tranny won't shift
check the vacuum line at the top of the motor and the one at the bottom and the tube they attach to thats the most common thing

Re: My tranny won't shift
I tried turning the gear to get it to come out and it won't come out of there. I also don't know if it shifts by hand because i have the shift linkage hooked up wrong. oops. I get park, reverse, nuetral, drive, 2nd, and then the shifter won't actually pull all the way down into first after that. but its been like this ever since ive driven it. I also discovered that the tranny was to full so could this be the problem or would it have just ruined the seals.
