2 year repainting project finally done.

I have been doing body work in my spare time on this truck for 2 years now. I just painted it myself two weeks ago. After spending days color sanding another project car I have I was very careful to put the clear on without runs or orange peel. It turned out pretty good. I also got some new wheels, 16" Mickey Thompson Classic II wheels on Goodyear Wranglers.
My theme with this truck is "How they should have built it" It looks pretty stock but it has a high compression 350, a 200-4R trans, 4 wheel disc brakes and power steering. So it drives like a modern vehicle.

Re: 2 year repainting project finally done.

That's how I want my 66 to turn out. Nice stock look. I even have a similar rear bumper. I thought about changing it out for the standard chrome version, but it's just so dang functional, I'll leave it as is.

Yes, this was the original color of this truck. I had to go to a couple different paint shops before I found one that could match the original color code. Its Urethane and the original was lacquer so it might not be exact. When I replaced the windshield gasket and looked at the blue in there it was a lot more dull. The clear makes it shine a lot more.

This bumper has been customized slightly by a previous owner. They usually have sides that touch the rear fenders. Someone cut those off and filled in the back side of the bumper with diamond plate. The section under the tailgate had diamond there too, but it had been hacked up for different things over the years so I welded on a new thin metal plate. I'm going to mount my backup lights and a trailer hitch on that plate. I have been looking for a factory photo of a truck with one of these "Step-&-Tow" bumpers, I don't know if they were a dealer add-on.
I wanted to keep this truck functional. I see a lot of great looking trucks at car shows, but I want to be able to use mine. I am getting the bed sides, rails and the top of the steps covered in body colored Line-X in a couple weeks. No worries about dings that way.

I can't picture any other vehicle that would look good in this color, but for some reason it works on this truck. Thats for all the replies everyone.

Be sure and post pics when that's done. I'll be doing the same thing.

You give me the hope that that I too can paint my own truck and parts. Would you give a brief explination on what you did and where you painted the truck? Was it in your garage? etc.

Re: 2 year repainting project finally done.

The wheel and tire combo match perfect with the paint and the truck's stance.

It's got that "Yeah, I'm a classic" look, "but I can still haul the fence posts."

Mac.
