Inside Cab Color? Can't figure out what I want to do...
Howdy everyone. I am kind of in a delema right now about what to do regarding painting of my '68. I know factory, the inside of the cab was the same color as the primary outside color (at least all I have seen). Since I don't know what color I am going with outside, I don't know what to do inside.
One thing that I am about 99% sure on is, I am going to paint the cab roof/pilars white. The main body color could be anything from satin black, to blue, orange, green, purple, etc. No idea what I want to do yet. What are your thoughts (and any pics would help) about doing the inside of the cab white, like the roof? Other idea is to do like the earlier C10, where they did the inside of the cab in a fawn color, regardless of the outside color. Thoughts, ideas, pictures, anything to help. It's been driving me nuts for months now. Thanks for helping to minimize my insanity.

I saw a nice C-10 on ebay that had tan interior to match the tan leather seat, carpet, etc. It looked real nice. The rest of the truck was red. I'll post pics later (if someone else doesn't)

Re: Inside Cab Color? Can't figure out what I want to do...
IMO, you gotta decide on a color.
However, on my race truck (new caterpillar yellow) I wanted the interior dark with tinted windows and painted the insides including door jambs gloss black with satin black trim panels, glove box door and guage panel, looks good. I'd post pics but, then I'd have to clean it...............

Re: Inside Cab Color? Can't figure out what I want to do...
so the inside of the cab is almost ready for paint, but you don't know what color it'll be?
Time to stop working, or pick a color... if you want it to look like the color belongs there anyways. |

Re: Inside Cab Color? Can't figure out what I want to do...
My original plans were to do the truck in satin black with a white cab roof. The inside of the bed, cab and engine compartment were going to be orange. I then was going to do traditional hot rod flames. I might still do this but haven't committed 100%.
Since I know the cab roof is going to be white, it will go with just about any color I paint the main body, that's the easy part. I want to paint the inside before doing the outside and the outside color may not be decided until the moment I actually pay for it, I don't want to hold up doing the interior while this happens. I have a set of bucket seats and a repro center console which are black so most any color interior will go with them. I figure I will make the paint division line at the door gasket. Outside of the door gasket will be body color, inside of them will be interior color. I'm surprised no one has done this type of combo. I know most newer cars/trucks, the interior is a different color then the outside. Doesn't seem to be that big of a stretch doing the same. Sure it's not factory but this truck is not being restored to factory.

Asking someone else to choose your paint is like asking them to name your child, it just isn't right. If the outside is flat black, that is what I would do on the inside, but that's just me.

I have been hoping someone had some pics that they did or saw done. I can't beleive I am the only one with this idea. I am not looking for someone to make a color choice for me, just looking for ideas.

Re: Inside Cab Color? Can't figure out what I want to do...
Like others have said you need to pick a color.
When I see a 67-72 Chevy truck with an interior color different from the outside I immediately think - repaint and the guy was too lazy [or cheap] to do the interior. Regarding newer vehicles having different interior colors than exterior - you need to pull out enough plastic. After you do you'll notice the paint on the metal is the same as the exterior. The reason it is so obvious on our trucks is that the interior is so spartan that the metal underneath really sticks out. In my opinion I think you need to pick a color for the exterior and run with it.

Re: Inside Cab Color? Can't figure out what I want to do...
Well, LMK throw a wrench into this discussion, 67-8 could be had with a different interior color than the outside, they did a grey silver along with the inner grill and that doesn't "match" the exterior. I say do what you want, but my "toothpaste green" interior will go away as soon as I can get to the Burb!!

Well, I guess I must be the only one with this idea.
Attached is a pic, not the best one but the only thing that even remotely show what I was talking about. This is the one that gave me the idea originally.

Actually your original plan of orange inside ,satin black with hotrod flames sounds good to me.I think the reds and oranges in the flames would go great with the inside color.

Agreed, my first 67 was red and black inside and I loved it/still love it!! That flat black and orange/red interior looks sick. BTW it is your's don't worry what we think you have to sit in it and drive, not us

Re: Inside Cab Color? Can't figure out what I want to do...
My 67 has a black interior and I think the original body colour was red although its now yellow outside. I want a red flake dash when I do the inside properly!

Re: Inside Cab Color? Can't figure out what I want to do...
The black satin with red was my first choice. I decided to go gloss black on the exterior with red interior. Interior metal (dash, etc.) will be same black as exterior. Upholstery will be red, including dash pad, door panels, carpet and seat.
If I had committed to the satin black on the body, I would think long and hard about doing a red metalflake roof, glossy of course, as a contrast, along with the wheels ('Vette style wheel vintiques). At that point, I don't think flames would be needed. But, with the gloss black, flames will be necessary for the look I want.

Re: Inside Cab Color? Can't figure out what I want to do...
I keep going back and forth. My original plans keep coming back but everytime I see someone here with a cool blue or green color, I then start thinking, with all the work it's going to be, should I do a shiny color instead of satin. Agggg....
I think what I really need is about 10 of these trucks, so I can do each one a different color and not have to choose. Wife doesn't like that idea though...

Re: Inside Cab Color? Can't figure out what I want to do...
If the top is for sure gonna be white on the outside then why not white inside the top part of the cab? Agian this leaves you with the final color to paint the lower part but why not carry the 2 tone them inside the truck also? Just my 2.5 cents worth..
