My new '66
Hey y'all. Just picked up a '66 Chevy pickup to haul my boy's toy's around (dirtbikes)...and my GF's...and mine. Has a V8, a passenger car 4-speed with a Hurst shifter and an Eddlebrock 4bbl. Got it for a helluva steal. One question though, I'm tryin to determine if it's a 283 or a 327. The stamp just below the right head at the front of the block reads "F03I4WY". What the hell is a WY?

Wyoming.... Sorry, couldn't resist.
Very nice truck, and welcome to the board. If someone doesn't answer your question, try posting over on the engine and drivetrain section of this board.

according to Mortec...that location is the
Quote:
you need the number from the back of the engine directly behind the left cylinder head, between the head and the trans, (can be hard to see and gunked up, sometimes a mirror helps), should be a 6, 7, or 8 numbers, then you can look here to see what engine it is http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm Looks like a nice rig!!

Re: My new '66
I couldn't find a WY, but all W* in that era are a 283.
http://www.americanclassic.com/paint.htm?p1=engines you can run the VIN through there and see what that VIN matches up to as well. with the transmission, looks like it has been "worked on", so there is really no clue what the engine is. |

Nice Truck!!!
I really like the chrome step bumper. I recognise that bumper - 1969 - 1972 Chevy / GMC. I was wondering if that bumper would cross over to our trucks! I wonder if the previous owner had to do any fabricating to get it to fit?

Re: My new '66
Nice truck you have there. Do you have plans for any changes/upgrades?
I couldn't find a 'WY' when I looked either, I'll let you know if I find it.

Re: My new '66
Thanks for the props. We've determined that it's a 327. Don't plan on many changes, just some upgrades. Installed a set of cast aluminum corvette valve covers, installed a new set of BFG Radial TAs, have a edelbrock manifold to install, have a procomp hei distributor to install, replace brakes, replace shocks, change out 378 gears for 308's, rebuild tranny, new wood bed (maybe using local madrone). That's about it.
