Motorhome

Bought this Motorhome a few months ago on Craig's list for $500 bucks. 454 runs like it's new, the thing was sitting in a field and the plates were ten years old. They said it wouldn't start, so I brought a battery and a starter, my tools and a lot of 3/8 fuel line. Hint "always bring fuel line when you buy an old truck".

It took me 15 minutes and I had it running and drove it home 40 miles. The air works, the heater works, the hot water heater, stove and water pump all work. This beautiful Motorhome was a STEAL!! After I got it home I found the 75 gallon fuel tank in the rear of the thing was FULL of fuel. I had to pump it out through a heavy duty diesel fuel filter system to remove the water and treated it with gas treatment and it's good to go.

What do you guys think?

Re: Motorhome

I'll get some pics of the interior uploaded soon, I had to tear out the carpet, the only thing I've had to fix was the water pipes, when I found out they were leaking the carpet got all wet and 36 years of stink came out. It was a terrible thing. So now the original ugly yellow linoleum is showing. It's in remarkable condition, no tears or worn spots at all. You should see the interior of the cab and the pass-through, no tears at all.

Re: Motorhome

Great buy....I'd suggest replacing the carpet with laminate flooring. You may find a good deal on a closeout or the leftovers from a job. However it will take such a small amount, you can be choosy and get nice cedar or oak finish.

Man that thing had to be stored inside something for most of it's life, it's just too clean, and not sun baked at all. Nice score!
The cab A/C works, or roof A/C?

Re: Motorhome

Roof AC works, cab AC needs a compressor, which is ok because I have an extra that should bolt up. Sorry for not having pics yet, we've been getting her ready for the lake this weekend and my wife had everything torn apart in there cleaning while I was trying to get the boat cleaned up. I have a few from when I went to look at it so it looks dirty. Here ya go.

OK it looks much nicer now that it's all cleaned up, but this is what it looked like when I went to go see it. It sat in the same field for over 10 years. The air is very dry out there so that's why it's in such good shape I think. Oh btw, it has a kohler generator that still works as well.

I've had her on the road twice now for a couple hundred miles with no mechanical issues. All I've done to the engine is clean out the field mouse nest that was on the intake and change the oil and all filters. I'm going to switch to HEI when the local yard comes across a stock GM distributor. As you can see by the pictures, I removed the stock rims and put a set of Alcoa wheels on it from my 83 dually. That made her look much better! I still haven't had time to try to buff out the paint, I think she'll really shine if I do that.

The odometer reads 75000 miles and I think it may be original miles. As for cruisin', we'll see about that. My real love is my 71 GMC "Longhorn". I traded a 1998 4x4 chevy pickup 3/4 ton for that one. Found her on Craig's list as well.

Well, headed to work, I'll try to take some "after cleanup" pictures today after work.

Dan

Re: Motorhome

Here we are at the lake.

We're cleaning up things tomorrow and I'll snap some pictures of the inside for you. Both trucks ran perfectly for over 240 miles round trip up and down mountain passes from 6000 feet to 7700 in elevation. I'm just amazed at this motorhome. One thing I did find out that's kinda bad. The holding tank for the sanitary sewer is smaller than the water tank.

Stinky trip home, let me tell ya.
