Glasspacks

First off, forgive me if I put this in the wrong forum. It seemed the most reasonable. Anyways, I have '72 C-10 that my dad and I are working on. He wants me to run just a regular exhaust with headers, I want to headers with glasspacks. There's a set of Hedmen Tight Tubes I'd like to get, but I'm not real sure on how to do it, or what to go with. You might be able to I'm a little ignorant to this stuff, so any help would appreciated.

You want my opinion....toss the glass packs and find a good used 40 series flowmaster. It will sound so much better.....

What do they sound like? I'm looking for something loud. I see trucks all day with Flowmasters that have that deep rumble to them. Nothing wrong with that, I just want something different.

put some dynomax bullets on it they sound good and will wake up the neighborhood

they almost sound like open headers
a mild cam really helps

Ive had cherry bombs, thrush, and m-80s' and none have been as loud as my 40 series when I get on it.

I also think bullets sound very nice. Great hotrod sound.

next time i see my buddy's car (01 camaro) i will take a vid
his is just a y-pipe, a 3 in bullet, and a dumpoff it sounds mean

I have the exact same setup on my 02 Trans AM

what size engine does is have
my buddies has an lq9 with an ls6 top end and a pretty radical cam
its a 11.50 1/4 mile car

I had Glass packs on mine for about 8 years. They bothered me. I got a set of used 40 series flows put on and it sounds much better.

It's a 347 ls6.....forged pistons, studded mains, stock heads (for now) and a mild cam. Prolly good for 7.50's in the 1/8th. I don;t race it much as it's my daily.

Longer the glass pack, the deeper the tone. And I think they sound better than the every-day flowmaster any day. But, that's just me.

+1 for the 40 series i have em on my truck and they sound way better than my cousins 84 blazer with cherry bombs or my other cousins 62 impala ss with glass packs.

I guess im sorta out to lunch on this topic... but i hate both of those... =/..

i'd pick either spintechs... or xr-1's.. for a less raspy tone.

If you want easy, you can buy glass paks with the flange already on them to bolt right up to your header collector.

I've been looking at the Bullets and think I'm inlove. Does it matter what kind of headers I go with? I was thinking about going with some 2.5" Hedmans.

no they dont have a flange on them so it doesnt matter what headers you run

All mufflers sound different depending on headers, exhaust tubing size, and if you use a H pipe or X pipe.

I have 2 chamber Flowmasters on my truck now.

I am going to put MagnaFlow Magnapacks on her later.

Speaking of Flowmasters, I have some that i'm just itching to get rid of. Not really, but when I get the money for some new ones... If you don't a loud race tone like Borla xr-1's or Dynomax bullets, try out the Dynomax ultra flo or the Pypes race pro. Both are cheaper than Magnaflow or such and have a great sound. The pypes are stainless too.
I can't stand the boring blublubblub of a Flow. My truck sounds just like any late model. Boring. Also, atleast fit an H-pipe on there. It reduces resonation and sounds better. I like x-pipes for their racey tone and better scavenging, but they are harder to find a good spot to mount. I'm saving my bills for some Xr-1's, and if not that, the bullets. The bullets are only 40 each

Anyone made their mufflers out of Driveshafts? My dad says growing up they used to it all the time!

Nope! The drive shafts are made from cold rolled drawn steel. They make that deep ringing sound. 3 or 3 1/2 inches in diameter. Cut the lenght you want. Some people use glass packs and weld the drive shaft to it. I have seen and heard it once on a rat rod. I was impressed! Some of the Old School fellas on here have heard or done this I know.
