Help .... I'm getting ready to do a front bag install ,I don't want to lay frame I've sliced a full coil off my lowered coils so I've got the ride height I want, but now I want to improve ride quality as well , what I need is some pictures of front bag installs and some hints on how to go about it .... cheers Ray

The best I can offer is what it looks like on an 82 Blazer. It's pretty much the same thing. Read through the posts here and you will find tons of info.

N2TRUX, what are guys using for bump stops with a setup like this? The photos don't seem to show one? Anyone know if you can retain your stock front bumps in a 68?

There aren't any stops in those pics. On my 77 we fabricated a riser to mount a stop in the stock location. I wanted the stop to bottom out and allow the truck to roll.

thanks N2TRUX thats what I was after , I understand about the top plate but what's the go with the LCA and the bag ? thanks again Ray

It depends on how low you are trying to go. In my pics, (Chucks pic is better) you will see there is a "cup" attached to the bag on the bottom. This is used to center the bag in the spring pocket.

The cup is attached to the bag but "not" the A-arm. It simply floats and is held in place by the weight of the truck.

If you want to go lower, you can cut the cup down to 1/2" thick. This will give you a bit more drop and still hold the bag in place.

If your after the max amount of drop, you can go one step further. You can cut the A-arm out and weld a large cup in place, you'll get even more drop. I don't have any pics so you'll have to research a bit more if you choose to go this route.

N2TRUX you've just answered my question , I don't want to lay frame just achieve a low ride height , at the moment I'm running lowered and cut coils , hopefully the bags will give a better quality ride ! Thanks Ray

How many coil(s) were cut?

Bags will ride better if the manufacturers recommended 'ride' height is used. If you start deviating from that, it will change the ride quality & have a ripple affect (are the shocks within the proper range of travel @ ride height, stock bumpstops may need to be cut-down/modified). You might need to combine bags w/other forms of lowering to acheive your desired ride height.

Example: I used Firestones 7" diameter bags (2600's), 1.5" lowering blocks, & off the shelf replacement type HD gas shocks in the rear of my 68. To achieve the desired ride height w/these mods, I couldn't run more than 30psi (any more than that & the truck was too high in the rear giving it way too much rake). This lower pressure caused the rear of the truck to be very 'bouncy' (especially noticeable on the highway or a service road).

To eliminate the bouncy ride quality, I had to go w/a smaller bag that required a little more pressure to achieve the same overall height & added a taller lowering block. When done, it took about 45psi to now achieve my desired ride height which allowed the bags to perform much better (no bouncing). Just stuff to keep in mind . . .....

Scoti the coils were 3inch drop then I cut a full coil which gave me a 5 1/2 inch drop on the rear I'm running 2600's at about 20 psi which gives me the ride height and it rides better than the lowered coils cheers and thanks for your input ..... Ray
