picture time, might make you cry
so my co-worker leaving work yesterday forgot i was parked next to him as he pulled out his parking spot in his new f150 and turned right into me. i told him i want to fix it myself but he's making his insurance handle it at a body shop... (havent found one yet)... i'd go buy a stud-gun/slide hammer, some filler, and a new bumper for less than $300, have it fixed minus paint by the end of the day but it's not really my choice i guess. on a good note i finished my fuel filler in the bed.

Re: picture time, might make you cry
I have been down this road and most companies now days with have an adjuster come look at it and cut you a check on the spot. I was in the middle of a 3 car wreck with the 68 3/4 ton. Really screwed up the guy in front and behind me. They cut me a check for $1,300 and I put it in the bank. They were trying to total it because of its condition but I was able to prove that the 460 BBC was worth twice that. It was a good day!

Re: picture time, might make you cry
Everyone is right. You are protected legaly, and don't even have to get it fixed if you don't want to. Take the money, get what you need, and fix it yourself.
Don't let them lowball you, total it, push you around, and don't let them tell you it's only worth 1300 bucks. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 06-23-2009 at 04:06 PM. |

Re: picture time, might make you cry
I belive I would go with a statement like"Gosh.buddy I found a great body shop to fix my truck but they say it needs a total respray because they can't match the red since it's a bit faded."

Re: picture time, might make you cry
It's atleast $2000.00 worth of damage if you take it to a shop. Get the estimates, get the check and fix it yourself.

Re: picture time, might make you cry
As an insurance agent I can tell it is illegal for them to tell you where to take it. It is called steering. Progressive just got in big trouble for it. Go get an estimate and then grab the check and fix it yourself. If you have collision coverage then you can have your company go after his, but if you don't you are on your own to fight it out with his. Number one thing I can tell is make sure it is at a body shop of your choice when his company looks at that way the body man and his adjuster can agree on pricing vs. you trying argue without a bodyman's book in your hands. You can call me at the office if you need any further info 203-891-9011. Dave

Re: picture time, might make you cry
You also have the right to get your own estimate, I found that out last year. Take it to a place that does customs and classics to get the estimate, you cant trust it to just anyold bodyshop.

Re: picture time, might make you cry
heck yea, take money and do it yourself. I was in same situation back in january, wife got hit from behind in her durango, estimated at $1300 damage, fixed it myself, paint and parts for aroung $300. Oh yeah, forgot to mention, durango was hit by a mustang, it was totaled, because the durango is a 4x4 and the stangs hood just slid under my spare tire carrier! So thats a "FORD", Found On Road Dead! : )
