"Oil Canning" Hood
Anyone have the problem w/your hood "oil canning"? You know, vibrating when you hit a bump. My 67 hood has no insulation in her like a new truck. What have you done to put an end to the vibration?

I cut one of the braces out a doner hood and add a third in the center, matches and looks oem to the untrained eye.

there's supposed to be material between the ribbing and the sheet metal, keeps this to a minimum.

The material is a type of roughly 3/8" thick spongy rubber.

Also don't overlook the hood hinges. Make sure the hood hinges are well lubricated so the hood opens easy and smooth. I've seen hoods bend in the middle when they were kind of "forced" open due to rusted or nearly frozen hinges. Repeated opening a hood with stiff hinges will permanently cause that "brokeback" bow in the middle of the hood.

what i did was removed the factory foam and used a tube of urathane to squeeze in between the hood and the hood support. it's a 3/8 inch by 3/8 of an inch on both sides of the two hood braces. then smoothed it out nice when it was still wet. it's been there since 1984 when i restored my truck and no problems since.

Just go on to LMC Truck.com. They have the insulation kits for about $30 I think. I bought a set when I did my truck and it made a world of difference!

So the insulation (only $12 from LMC by the way) will cut down on the hood vibrating? Mine only does it when I'm stopped in gear. Park or neutral or when I'm moving is ok, but at lights and stop signs it vibrates a lot!
