I was wanting to redo my wheels in the original white and put the hubcaps on. Is paint the best way to go or is powdercoating a better option. What is the average cost to do this??

I painted mine, but i am thinking about blasting them again and powded coating them. They are going on a show truck with nos full wheel covers and I think the powder will hold up much better.

Wheels are one of the first automotive parts that were powdercoated.Waite wagon wheels have always been powdercoated.It can still mess up and then it`s tougher to deal with.I`ve powdercoated many sets of wheels and really like the results.I have a set I did in`91 that still looks really good with only a few nicks and chips.Powdercoat can take alot more hubcap removal and installation.
But,painting works fine.That`s what wheels always were.It`s all in the prep.

If taking to a powdercoating should they just be normal white to be correct or were they originally some shade of white other than bright white??

make DARN sure they are completely blasted clean and de greased. the hardest part I found was the seam between the rim and the center. bubbles can form there if not completely, 100%, absolutely -positively clean.

ask me, I know first hand!

check with txfirefighter if you have any powdercoating questions.

we paint rims at the body shop.. and they look real great. single stage or base/clear they both look great

No oil, grease, brake dust, or road grime stays stuck to powder coat under power spray. Great convenience for cleaning.

Make sure you ask for zinc powder coat under the color coat. Adds a little toughness.

Should cost at least $50 per wheel depending on how much prep work is needed.
