How difficult is it to remove a sunroof from a 67 C10 and replace it with metal so it looks like it has never been tampered with?

I can't answer your question, but...

If you've already got the sunroof, why get rid of it? Unless it's really messed up or something...

It was poorly done, and I really just am not a sun roof person. I mean if it cant be fixed, so be it. But if I can fix it that is just what I'd prefer.

I agree with you, a sun roof just doesn't look right on these, and down south the sun just beats the crap out of you through that glass.
You'll need to cut out the metal from a donor truck, both inside and out, then have a welder who knows what he's doing to make it all one piece. Could get expensive too.

I've got the same problem, What I am in the process of doing is replacing the roof skin, You can get those aftermarket, But I cut mine out of a donor truck. As for the inside, I'm gunna make myself a custom headliner to cover the hole in the ceiling.

You could always cut the pillars and transplant an entire roof. It would be a roof swap instead of a roof chop.

I've done a roof swap, and a chop top. I would do a roof swap myself,it's alot easier to weld the post,instead of patching outside and inside.You have heat warpage as an issue,and the inside is overhead welding.If you swap the top,put a thin strip of sheetmetal inside the rear posts,sticking out a little,this acts as a guide and backer where you might not have got your cuts just right.Oh, and measure your window openings in several places and write it down,so when you weld your top back on,you can get everything back to the same dimensions.Good luck

There is a company out there (cant remember the name) that sells the outer roof skin. Someone on here should be able to point you ion the right direction.

I also have a sunroof, was in when i purchased the truck, sun beats the hell out of me, wish i could get it filled in with metal too, til then will probly tint it.

Install a sliding rag top. They are cooler and easier than swapping roofs, and chopping two trucks apart. just my .02 cents

I was over at Bill's (Billsbowtie) the other day and he has at least one patch panel that i know of just for getting rid of a sunroof.

For what it's worth, LMC does now offer the outer roof panel.

How did this work out? Do you have any pics, and would I somehow be able to do the same thing? I'm trying to decide if I need to patch just the outside, or the inside too.

I haven't done it yet, but from what I can tell it's gunna be fairly easy. I'm gunna come up about 3/4 to 1" and cut around the front and side of the cab, and about the same where the pinch weld is. Then cut my donor roof panel fit over the "tab" then plug weld around it. I'll still probably go back around and weld the seam up. But the plugs will definitley hold the roof in place.
As for the headliner, I do custom uhplostery so that won't be a problem either. I plan on taking plenty of pics when I do it. I'm not gunna have any exposed fasteners like the factory does. It will basically be a "clipped" in panel.
Problem with me is I have everybody elses projects taking up my time. But hey gotta pay the bills somehow.

I have a feeling that chopping the roof off a donor truck and welding it on will be the easy way to go. Painting it will cost though. I would go that way.

I bought mine with a sunroof already in it. It was leaking so I sealed it up permanently for now and just drove it. I will probably add some tint to the inside to keep the heat down (or course its been in the garage for a year now....)

If I ever decide to, I'll swap the cab and repaint the whole thing anyways.

If you don't want to remove the sunroof and want to block out the sun, spray the inside with flat black paint (easier if you can remove the glass first to do it).

From the outside it will look like really dark tint but it will block all the sun on the inside. Tint works well but still doesn't block 100% of the sun.

The sunroof in the other cab is junk. I'm thinking I'll patch the inside and outside while I still have the material.

Between the inner and outer roof, what should I use to replace the factory black stuff?
