help !!!!

I have been looking at everyone's projects and was hoping you could help answer some questions for me. I have a 65 chevy C 50 dump that belonged to my great grandfather. I am very suprised at the good condition that it is in after all these years. It has very little rust especially considering that it has spent its entire life here in Virginia.
I have been trying to figure out what to do as far as restoration goes. I am hoping that I can make a crew cab out it and put a more modern drive train in it because I would like to be able to afford to drive it occaisionally because it currently only gets about 5 mi. per gallon. As well as get rid of the flat bed and use a longbed fleetside that also dumps.

My questions are :
1. Does the 50 cab have the same deminsions and lines as the 10 & 20 c's
2. Do the doors on the 63 have the same lines as the 65 body style. (looks like those doors would work better for making a crew cab.

I haven't started this project yet. I'm trying to start acquiring some parts.

#1 yes,unless you have a LCF (the doors are notched for the front wheel, and hood is about 2 ft shorter.)
#2 yes those would be the better door to use as a rear door.

Door lines are the same as far as I know.You can actually take the cab off the big truck frame and bolt it to a 1/2 ton frame.Hoods the same. the rest of it is different fenders, rad support grille support. Have you looked at the big truck forum?

Thanks, aero no I haven't looked at the big truck forum. I realize that the fenders are different in order for larger wheels, flares and running boards. but not sure why the radiator support would be different. Is the front of the truck taller from the bottom of the hood to the bumper. ie. larger grille, filler panel etc.

Joe, Thanks I'm not very familiar with these trucks and restoration. I'm just trying to figue out what may be possible. The last thing I restored was a 67 chevy II 15 years ago. Which I still enjoy driving today. Just think I'm ready for another project.
Has anyone ever seen one of these larger trucks set up to look like a pickup on steroids. The International pickup that looks like a road tractor with a pickup bed is where the motivation for this idea is coming from. Yes! probably a crazy idea but I like the steroid look and was hoping I might be able to tie it in with the classic body style.

jonz, The blue truck (first pic )is the same truck as mine I just wish mine was already a crew cab. But that is very similiar to what I have in mind. I wonder what it would look like with a fleetside bed and stepside fenders , to allow for dually's. Sure wish I knew how to photo shop it to make it look that way.

I have seen several crew cab builds on here but have yet to see one of them completed. Has anyone done this succesfully and do you have any pics of the process.
