rear end question
I have a 1970 C-30, 292, 4 speed, and a very low geared rear end. She tops out about 55 mph. What are my options for gaining more speed? 5 speed tranny? If I change gears in my rear end will I lose hauling capacity? My Dad said he heard of an outfit you can bolt on the back of the tranny to do this, any one heard of any thing like that?

Re: rear end question
Your dad is thinking of Gear Vendors overdrive units.

Re: rear end question
Basically you have 3 options,
1. Gear Vendors unit or similar $$$$ 2. Overdrive tranny, manual or auto $$$ 3. Replace gears or whole axle with better ratio $$ Yep, that's about it. Good luck. BTW a good condition 292 straight 6 is a torque monster so gears won't be as much of an issue in loss tow capacity.

Re: rear end question
Thanks Mike, this little 292 runs great. The guy had it rebuilt a year before he parked it.
