63 C 10 it begins
Here it is after getting it home, picked up an 80 front end including brake booster and all power steering components, looking for a 71/72 five lug rear.
Measured the suspension and arrived at the following Plan 2.5” drop spindles and –2” springs in the front, going to c notch the rear with +2” blocks –3” springs. Any comments on that set up or recommendations feel free to chime in. Last edited by Craven Moorhead; 08-22-2009 at 03:41 PM. Reason: pics |

Re: 63 C 10 it begins
I'd go straight to 5 inch rear springs rather than 3 inch plus 2 inch blocks. The 3 and 5 inch springs cost the same money. Plus, the lowering blocks get the bottom of the u bolts near the scrub line and can look a bit funny from the rear view.

Re: 63 C 10 it begins
Thanks Guys
Kevin: The reason I was considering a block and spring combo was to try and optimize travel and not compromise the ride as much but the scrub line consideration is a good point. Do you feel like there is an optimum combo when considering use and ride quality when lowering to this point, like 1” blocks and – 4” springs? Just springs would be easier. I want to lower the truck conventionally (no air bags) as low as possible and still have the suspension work reasonably well. |

Re: 63 C 10 it begins
First, let me say, I have lowered all of my trucks for the last 20 years (probably 8 of them). I always go straight to 6 inch springs. If I am towing a trailer pretty often, 5 inch springs. After my divorce, I parted out a lot of motorcycles for extra cash. I hauled Goldwings even in the bed of my step side with 6 inch springs. It would bottom sometimes with a huge bike like that, but anything lighter never a bump.

Well you obviously have no sense of taste nor have you ever had the pleasure of owning a 64-66. You just gave the 2 reasons (dash, winshield) why the 60-63 are stupid ugly. Now dont take this as an attack I was just answering a question. I will now state the obvious, all that matters is what you like. |

Re: 63 C 10 it begins
So far haven't found one....The 63's are in a class all there own. Old-school looking dash/windshield and OG grill.
First for coils and common chassis. 4,5,6....they are all the same !!

Re: 63 C 10 it begins
I found a guy with a stock pile of 71/72 rear ends, anything in particular to look for? I want a posi unit but they are all sealed and he does not want me to open them up. Anyone have any part numbers I could identify them by?
Thanks |

Re: 63 C 10 it begins
If you rotate the yoke on the pinion and the two axels rotate in the same direction it should be a Positraction unit. If they rotate in opposite the direction to each other you have a one wheel wonder.

Re: 63 C 10 it begins
Picked up a 71/72 rear end for it today 100 bucks. I found a guy with a stock pile of Chevy truck parts. He said many of the yards scrapped everything when scrap was high he kept it all.

Re: 63 C 10 it begins
Approximately 58.5" axle flange to axle flange, the vin says its a 72 3.07:1 open. Nothing special but it is all there in good condition.

Re: 63 C 10 it begins
That doesn't sound right. It should be right at 63 1/2" IIRC

Re: 63 C 10 it begins
Where exactly are you measuring and I will measure it again, I measured from the axle tube flange to axle tube flange to 58.5" I get 63.625" drum face to drum face.
