NewB-GMC1000-SWB-FrontSpringReduction-RAKE
Hello All,
First, Thanks to all on the board. A cool community and very helpful. Well, I finally took the plunge and picked up a 1966 GMC 1000 SWB. All original, farm truck, really solid and straight, 250 stovebolt, oil bath filter, 8 leaf pack in rear, 1/2 rot bed, all interiors components work, missing radio (looking), all hubcaps present I was tired of looking at the gasser front end so I decided to lower it. I did a coil reduction by 1.5 coil. With help from archive board pages, I accomplished it with a spring compressor and unbolting the two u-bolts on the LCA. It was very simple and took me about two hours. I measured the coil with a cloth tape measure and put tick marks at every inch past one full coil and one at 25.5" (which is exactly 1 1/2 coil) from the bottom. After the drop the centerline of the front fenders is 28 3/4" off the ground. I am very pleased with the outcome. I will need to trim the bump-stops, but it does ride good. Thanks again and enjoy the pics. Just arrived: http://picasaweb.google.com/shadmeier/GMC10TRUCK# |

** update.
The turbo is running good. I installed a crankcase evac. system to help with blow by caused by boost. Gloss blacked the steelies. Installed drop shackles out back to get it down 1.25".

Hay Matt's k5 I really like that photo of your truck. Something about it just pops. I rotated it a little bit because it looked a little crooked but still a really good photo.

Re: NewB-GMC1000-SWB-FrontSpringReduction-RAKE
I wanted to drop the front end another inch, so I popped the springs out and cut 3.5" (following the spring coil) off.
I originally cut 1 1/2 coil off them. So total is right under 1 3/4 coil. Here JED is:

(( UPDATE )) -GMC1000-JED -SWB-FrontSpringReduction-RAKE
Quote:
At first, if I remember right, I removed every other leaf which totaled 5. 8 to start minus 5. Then I put shackles on it on the highest hole (most drop), then went back an removed the shortest leaf. I am now with just two leafs and what is where it sit today. I did a measurement at the center of each fender well to ground. Front is about 26 1/4" and Rear is about 24". I hope this helps

Re: NewB-GMC1000-SWB-FrontSpringReduction-RAKE
i just measured mine and it is exactaly the same. as low as the back will be unless you go with a flip kit. but i am not that big of a hurry to spend another $150. kind of like the rake look.

Re: NewB-GMC1000-SWB-FrontSpringReduction-RAKE
Dude Jed's looking good. I like your mini-rake. Makes it look mean. Mine is now level after my C-notch but now i wanna drop an inch up front to bring just a little rake back.
