87 tbi cranks but won't start...need help!

I'm posting this for my dad. He has an 87 that won't start. Sometime last summer shortly after he bought it he had the same problem. He has installed new fuel pumps, plugs, wires and a complete distrubitor. I'm trying to see if there are any known common problems with the tbi system. I know how the system works. The only problem is that I live in another state, so it's hard for me to see what it's actually doing. He says he can't hear the fuel pump coming on and the bowl under the injectors are dry. Does anyone here know of any common problems? Thanx

check the fuel pump relay, also there should be a test wire to check the pump.

Check for spark first. If none it's probably the module in the distributor. Next check for fuel. Doesn't sound like the injectors are pulsing. If it is fuel, you should at least be able to use some starting fluid or pour gas down the throttle body and get it to fire. Then check the relay, then pump.
