HEI clearance in TF??
I have a knot in my stomach about clearance and am feeling lazy today so could someone post a photo of a TF with SBC and GM HEI installed with a stock firewall? I am ready to go to final paint on my firewall and if I need to modify it now is the time. My cab is off and it looks like it will clear but want to be sure.
Thanks a bunch Patrick

Re: HEI clearance in TF??
What is your clearance from driver back of head to firewall? I think the Camaro clips move the engine a little forward, I'm running the stock frame with engine in stock location with front mounts. Thanks Patrick

Re: HEI clearance in TF??
I think I am ok. The back of the HEI sticks out 2.75" from the back of the driver side head. The firewall recess is 4" deep. From my pictures and memory I have about 1" between the head and firewall so in theory I should have minimum 1.25", probably more clearance. If not I will get out the porta-power and move the firewall a little bit.

Thanks all for what you could give me. I'll find out when the cab goes back on.

Re: HEI clearance in TF??
Orrie, I have mine installed on a Camaro clip. But I do believe that if your valve covers clear the firewall, then the HEI will have plenty of room due to the large indention (sp)!!!!

Re: HEI clearance in TF??
Thanks Chuck your head clearance looks about like mine, so all should be well.

Re: HEI clearance in TF??
looks like you will be fine, but if you end up having clearance issues, a trick is to install the dist. without the cap, and then install the cap after the dist is already in the motor. also, some of the big dist. companies make small diameter hei's IIRC.
