I want to put a regular modern CD player in my 84 and I'll be using a Covans dash panel so cutting that part will be easy. As far as cutting the originalk dash, do most people just take a cutoff wheel a go for it? Any advice on doing a nice clean job? I also want to mount 2 amps and one sub behind the seat, anybody know of any premade boxes/enclosures for these trucks? I'm curious where most people mount the amps?

a cut off wheel will work dremel body saw it needs to be a 2.5" by 7" hole the amps can go on the back wall or under the seat if you have a bench seat if you have buckets maybe you would have to move them later if you were to switch to bucket seats as for a pre-made box most audio shops will have a "truck box" its about 15"high 5 deep on the bottom and 4 deep on the top walmart sometimes has them its a pretty common box usally comes in a 8"-10"-12" sub hole best way to mount it put the box in with out the sub screw threw the box in to the rear wall then put the sub in

rockford fosgate also makes one with a flat sub already set to go fits right in a little on the expinsive side but they are well made and hit pretty good http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...%3D2%26hl%3Den

3r! it looks like in that pic of your box theres wrinkles in the top if it is you can peel the back up and reglue both fabric and wood let the spray adhesive dry before sticking it down use a heatgun lightly and it will stretch back and get rid of the wrinkles it might just be the way the pic is but if not its an easy fix

yea we didnt have glue when we made it =/
there is none on the top and front,just the sides have them.
im probley going to redo it when i get a amp for it.

they have spray 3m adhesive at autozone for like 7bucks or so it works good and takes about 15minutes to fix it instead of reduing the whole box

I used a Dremel, a measuring tape, pencil, and ALOT of care.

Seriously, take your time, think it out, and everything will go just fine.

As for amps, no one make a prefab box for that, but you can easily mount them on a piece of MDF along the back wall, or under the seat (like mine). Neither space will have heating issues provided the amps have access to a useful amount of fresh air.

Wish you were closer, I'd build you a box.

Mind the volume knob...

there are many companies that make a prefab box for behind the seat i posted one earlyer that rockford fosgate makes and just about any audio store will have a prefab box also they make them in 8-10-12 ive installled many of them in these trucks and they fit perfectly
just to name a few most of these should fit measure before and the have the dimentions on the links
amp should be fine as long as theres some air gap between the seat and the floor the air vents on the amp should be on the sides

You should be able to. Mine hardly get hotter than "warm to the touch"

In addition, most amps will have a "Thermal Protect" function that will shut the amp down if it gets too hot. If this occurs, just move the amp to behind the seat.

there not that hard to make and there cheap too
like 25$ for a sheat of mdf
and fabric is like 5 dollars
AND you get to say "i made that"

idk where im at its about 30$ a sheet of 3/4 mdf its about 7$ for 3m spray adhesive wood glus is about 5$ carpet is around 30$ 6'x6' is the smallest they sell it at connector cups for the speaker wire connections 5$ siliconII to seal the inside 6$ then theres nails and nailgun jigsaw and circular saw calwking gun and razor knife so thats about 90 bucks with tax perviding you have the tools already some times its a cheaper option to just get a prefab from your local audio shop for 50 inless you already have some of the stuff to PROPERLY do it then it doesnt seem like it cost so much

heres my set up. its a custom built box made by my cousin and myself. the subs are 12in alpine type S 2ohm and the amp is a hifonics zeus amp. the small box on top of the box is a bass remote. and the box is covered with carpet i got from lowes i believe. i didnt want to have to worry about people lookin into my truck and seeing a box behind the seat so i made it as wide as the bench and contoured to the back of the bench so it would fit perfectly and be undetected. the amp rack in the middle of the box works great my amp has never overheated or shut off for any reason. the pics were taken at night to show the amp light up. its a little dirty havent had much time to clean up. i also got a couple pics of the deck and how its mounted. it was done before i bought the truck. plan on changin it out to get an alpine. the box itself wasnt hard to make but like they already said you gotta have the right tools. i made some blue prints with complete measurements before we cut anything so everything is spaced evenly. still have em if your interested.

Here's how I put together my boom box with a little room left behind the seat. I used Jeffs (bigblock73)'s speaker brackets for the 6x9s.
