What did you do about the horn button setup behind the steering wheel, do i have to pull the contact off of the astro to make it work or can i use the original horn button contact. I just tried to slip on steering wheel to check fit and the splines seemed to big didnt want to catch, so does that mean my splines on my steering column are a little worn down??? If i do sell how is 30 dollars plus shipping????
thanks John |

The one on my truck is off of a astro van. I took the wire for the astro van and sanded the ears down on the part that locks in the column so it would fit tightly into the 72 contact. and took the astro contact and shoved into the 72 contact

I put one on about two weeks ago. Just pull the old wheel, turn the little spring loaded thing until it fits through the new wheel, and bolt it on. Make a little jumper wire aobut 3-4 inches long with a bullet connector on one end and a female spade end on the other. HOld the spring loaded thing with a pair of needle nose pliers and slide on the bullet connector. Slide the spade bit on the astro horn pad and your done.
Drives nice and looks good in my 67. I am going to paint the column semi gloss black to better match the wheel, as mine is tan currently, but it really does drive nice with the new wheel. OCB |

jjg, you may have to pull it again.
I installed the horn slip ring out of the donor S-10 that my wheel came out of and it didn't work properly. The truck ring has a tapered clar on it to hold the upper bearing in place while the new ones don't. If your wheel starts flopping up and down, that's whats wrong. Just went through this last month. |

I got one too...
I used the original horn contact ring.
the ring has a 'nipple' wich when depressed returns with a little spring....what I did is I opened up a butt connector, slipped it over the little metal 'nipple' pressed it shut with some plyers and then I crimped on a 3 inch wire with a spade connector, and put on a wire with a female and male spade for the horn button. Connected them right up..no prob. Only thing is that mine has space between the turn signal housing and wheel. No biggie...nice looking wheel.

How much smaller in diameter are these wheels compared to the stock ones...??? Are they a soft-grip style...???

I had cut the tappered part off my old contact ring, intalled that first, then installed the ring that goes with that wheel. Works great for me!

You are very welcome Bill72BB,
The first time I've actually been of help!!! One more thing to all...be sure to wrap any live-feed parts with some electrical tape...or you might have your horn sounding nonstop!!! However I am having a problem...my wheel doesn't go in all the way to the turn signal housing....I don't know why...its not a big deal....I just think it would look a little neater if it did.
