Does anyone know the best way to remove the bushings from the trailing arms? I have new poly bushings that I want to replace the old ones with.

They need to be pressed out. You can use a torch to burn them out, but it is a nasty process.

is there a way to press them out while the arms are still under the truck?

I did mine with a propane torch, I concentrated the heat on the inner sleeve instead of just trying to melt out the rubber, that way once the inner sleeve slid out with a screwdriver the rubber pushed right out.

You need to figure out if your new bushings reuse the old outer shells or not. Some do, some don't.

If so, just set the rubber on fire and it will burn out. Clean the shell with a wire brush and you're ready to install the new bushings.

If not, you definitely need a press or a real strong air hammer.

My poly bushings required the outer shell which made it easier on me to replace. All I did was drill holes into the rubber between the shell and inner bolt sleeve. Didn't take long. I made like 8 or 9 holes then stuck a big screw driver in the bolt sleeve and pryed it out. I then used a wire brush to clean out the shell.

Good idea. Much less of a mess than burning them out.

I've taken out bushings this way as well.

any idea what size wrench you needed for bolts? I have a 1 1/16 is biggest and it wasnt big enough! time to buy a new tool

mine were 1 1/8" if I remember right.

Yeah I think aggie is right.

I pressed mine out with the 20 ton press. Easy squeezy lol
