You should be able to just slap some 72 ball joints and it will be good to go iirc..

Dont you also need the cross shafts since the 73-87 have rubber bushings and 67-72 have the metal screw in/on cap with the grease fittings?

Change the ball joints to 71/72 or you could change your spindles to the later model 73/87. You won't have to change cross shafts, either or will bolt up to the crossmember.

I think the hardest part about ball joints is getting them out of the spindle. One trick if you can't press them in, is to loosely bolt it to the spindle and put some wieght on the truck with the spring in place. It will pull the ball joint into the arm
