Your Opinions - 2wd Blazer Conversion
I was looking at a driver truck near me today and figured I would check with you guys to see your thoughts on this conversion...
Original 4x4 - now a 5 lug 2wd conversion SBC 350 TH350 Front xmember is from a 78 truck Rear axle from a 78 truck as well New Exhaust 3" all the way - glass packs - too loud for me though Said that he cut down the 4x4 mounts and changed the leaf springs - instead of just moving the axle on top of them. Also cut an inch out of the front springs. Bad Gas tank is a VW tank - so 8-10 gals - and gauge is backwards (Empty = Full) HEI wired in wrong - so he can't shut it off with the key - (I tried to tell him how to wire it correctly and he didn't want to listen - OK buddy) Both Doors stick - so there must be some sag Hatch Hinges broken Interior is very rough - home carpet throughout Put Undercoating down on Bed and Floors under carpet - looks like roofing tar to me though I did take it for a test drive and it did run and stop OK. Comes with an excellent BesTop with all the hardware - no rips, tears or damaged windows... I would like to hear your opinions by the pix only...and tell me what you think this thing is worth. There will be a few sets... |

Is the price right for the condition of the truck?
The Hei wire hookup will take all of five minutes to fix before you even leave his driveway, maybe less. Mufflers equal a trip to your favorite muffler shop but that adds about 150 to the cost so I'd be wanting him to at least split the cost with me. But there is a hell of a difference between sounds great and too damned loud especially with a daily driver. The gas tank shouldn't be a big deal and a later 18 gallon tank might work better than the original tank in the lowered truck. I see a lot of rust showing on the bottom side. Is it cancer or surface rust that can be taken care of? The only way I would come up with a two wheel drive blazer around this area is to build one myself as they are nonexistent locally and the local rednecks go postal when they see a slammed Blazer. I think it all depends on what the underside looks like. The few pics you have doesn't look promising. Also looks like the conversion is pretty old. I'm from your neck of the woods so I know the rust belt well. Without more info I'm thinking $800-1k. You mention driver in your post but would you really drive it as is? Looks like a parts vehicle candidate. What useful parts does it have?

Looks like a few 'short cuts' were taken along the way but if your willing to put in the time to clean em up, sure why not.
I agree with the 1K price too, not a lot more if any. Not exactly a jewel in the rough but as long as you already realize that part...drive it! |

Does it have blazer buckets, console and rear seat and what kinda shape are they in. If they're ok and it has a tilt auto column I'd say it might be worth a little more, considering the soft top. Maybe $1500. That rust is pretty serious looking though, given the pic. The black tar is probably hiding some bad stuff. Hard to see from the pics if the top is an easy fix. I'd also look at the wiring a little closer. Is it tagged and driveable?

Yeah - I was looking for something that I can work on as time goes by - here and there and still drive it. I would be nervous to drive it home. This would be a PITA and $$ to get where I would want it - so I will be passing on it. Too many 'issues' for me to want to deal with. The guy is asking $3,000 for this thing and couldn't go much lower - Maybe I can get the soft top from him for cheap... The undercoating - IMO - was the last straw - that would be a nightmare to get off and then all the repairs I would find under that crap - no thanks... Would really take more inspection to comment much more, but doesn't look like a $3,000 Blazer to me either. It does scare me a bit that both valve cover oil caps are off. The slanted u-bolt doesn't speak well for the owner's attention to the vehicle either.
