not all that perdy, but I like it. I'm going to try and find a service body to put on it. Is it a short bed? I'm not real familiar with these trucks..thanks

From the pics it looks like the 131.5" wheelbase of the long bed pickups but, this truck also came as a chassis cab and they had a 135.5" model available which would be very similar. It should list wheelbase on the spid. If it doesn't, a quick check with a tape measure will let you know for sure.

Re: Bought a 79 Chevy 1 ton Dually 454,4sp
Like Dooley said - It's a Cab Chassis (meaning, it was sold with no box).
Those came in various wheelbases, including some pretty short ones, but would not be referred to as a short box. Another way to tell is that the dual rear wheel axle is narrower than a dual rear wheel pickup axle. On the Cab Chassis the outer wheels are even with the "box" side; on the pickup they stick way out necessitating the added fender. K

Thanks guys.
I was noticing that the wheels are not sticking out very far at all....you just explained why...cab and chassis. I like that |

that is a cool old truck. i used to make a living with one just like it (tow truck). the cab and chassis are also called 60' cab to axle. that bed is cool. painted body color, it would look a lot like an old western hauler from the 70s and 80's. some paint on that bed and a set of $125 simulators you wont know it

Re: Bought a 79 Chevy 1 ton Dually 454,4sp
I thouhgt they did but solely for tow trucks. I know a guy with a truck just like that except it has a tow truck thing on the back, and when he was toying with putting on a bed, he was telling me it was a short bed length...maybe he was high though!
