Anyone who knows something about the military CUCV knows they came in two flavors- regular cab long bed and Blazer. In rare occurrences there was a dually and a cab & chassis, but those are just variations of the RCLB.

Being a mechanic for the USMC, I've been pretty up-close and personal with these trucks and how they are used. I don't know about the other branches of service, but in the Marines, I have always said that they should have went with the crew cab instead of the regular cab. It would have just made more sense. I've never given the Blazer much thought until I was cruising Ebay and saw a Suburban done up military style...

Ain't this truck simply awesome? While we're on the subject, has anyone seen a crew cab done up like this? If so, post a pic, I'd love to see one.

That is pretty good. And you make perfect since. More room for people, electronics, cargo, etc. The suburban would be great!

Storm - we built those while I was in the plant.

Since they had quite a bit more content that the commercial trucks (including that camo paint) you can imagine they caused quite a disruption.

They had a 24V electrical system with two great big batteries. The lady that worked for me that was "supposed" to install the extra battery on the LH side was a petite little gal. We got her a step stool so she could reach up in there but - somehow she managed to miss almost every one. I ended up installing those myself

or my repair man managed to catch them.

Also - since they were built here in Michigan you should have heard all the deer hunters lusting after those things...

Heh, the hunters STILL lust after them... and off-roaders, collectors, and in my case, former Military.

I have a weakness for CUCV's... and deuce-and-a-halfs... and 5-tons... and...

I think a set of HMMWV beadlock wheels would look better.. but it is a nice looking rig none the less.

I keep telling my wife that I am going to buy an M35! We had a couple 6x's in the fire department that were built as brush trucks/water tenders with 1000 gallon tanks. I always loved driving those to calls! I want to get one BAD!

The Fort Carson auctions usually have a few nice ones.

Over on Steel Soldiers, alot of folks bob the rear of those deuce-and-a-halfs to make them a 4x4. They look pretty sweet.

I drove ours to a large fire in Grand Junction from Fort Collins, and back. 300 + miles each way! What a blast!

Well, on the HMMWV's, CUCV's, 5-tons and deuce-and-a-half, they use CARC paint. I don't know if that's available to civilians or not, but most military resto places sell paint that's pretty close in color to the CARC stuff.

The carc is still being used today alot more improvements though i love these old cucvs im in the process of buying one as we speak CARC IS DEFINTELY NOT ATTAINABLE BY CIVILAINS AS IT HAS ALOT OF RESTRICTIONS and spraying real carc is toatally diffrent than any car paint used out in the civillain world I know i work around it every day thier are companys that make carc look alike paint as for sanding and messing with the carc im a blaster for the goverment and the stuff can be hard to get off even with using glass bead garnet and alumnium oxcide its not something i would want to use any ways

I recently painted a truck using Gillespie's paint from Army Jeep Parts and it turned out pretty good. I'm in the process now of rebuilding my house truck (K20 LWB) to resemble a military truck and I am using the Gillespie WWII OD semi gloss which looks great so far.
