Upper ball joint question

So I ordered a power disc setup with drop spindles from POL. The bottom ball joint slid into the spindle and I was able to put the casel nut on with no problems. The upper ball joint on the other hand I had to crank the hell out of to get the castle nut up far enough to get the cotter pin in. I mean I literally had to use a breaker bar to turn the nut so no way does it meet the factory tq specs. The spindle does move freely though. Should I be concerned with this?

The nut is on there and locked into place, but don't know what kind of problems I may have.

Re: Upper ball joint question

sounds like you have the wrong balljoint. Maybe ask the auto parts store for a different year and see if they are close.

OR, the spindles were not drilled out all the way or for a different balljoint. Thats certainly not correct for that to be that tight.

Re: Upper ball joint question

I talked to the guys over at POL and they suggested the spindles and ball joints might not have completely seated. Because I am doing a frame off and have no weight on the frame I could not jack the control arms up with out lifting the frame off the jack stands.

They suggested getting it back on the wheels and having a couple of people stand/bounce on the frame and get them to seat. Then lift it back up and try tightening them again. Sounds reasonable so I am going to give it a shot.

sounds like you have the wrong ball joints, it should not have been that difficult to install or seat. Even without any wieght, just my two cents

Re: Upper ball joint question

I agree.
Match the upper ball joint, to the year of spindle that you ordered,... and you should be fine.
