NOS Parts Indentification

I've got a lead on a NOS '72 outer and inner grill and would like to know if there are any other distinguishing marks to look for other than an original GM sticker or box. The gentleman that has them bought them from a local Chevy dealer a few years ago when he was restoring his truck. He lost interest while restoring it and he said that both pieces are new never installed, but he said the boxes got wet at some point and he tossed the boxes. He's an older gentlemen and doesn't have access to a digital camera, so I'm going today to look at them. His asking price is good even for repop, but I wanted to be able to indentify if they are in fact NOS parts.

My few NOS parts have the factory box, and then some of them are in some plastic stamped GM. But they're little stuff, I don't know about bigger stuff.

Without setting them side by side it would be hard to tell. Most GM grills have some defects in them from the stamping process, even to the point that I have had customers refuse them. The GM grills are anodized and the reproductions are clear coated and to my eye appear a little brighter than the GM grills. The reproductions also do not have any defects either, at least not to the extent that the GM grills do. Lastly I believe that the reproductions are a little lighter than GM's. Like I said it would be hard to tell if you haven't seen a bunch of either grills prior to the one you are going to look at unless you have one or the other to compare to it. WES

Thanks Wes. That's the kind of answer I was looking for. If they're in great condition like he says I'll probably go ahead and buy them. I need a grill either way, so NOS or repop doesn't matter to me.

I`d tend to just believe the guy.It`s stories like his that answer,"where is this N.O.S. coming from?"Unless he wants an arm and a leg over repro,you can`t go wrong.

I went and met the guy yesterday and ended up buying the grill from him. He was a super nice guy and had some nice toys. He buys, restores and sells John Deere tractors as a hobby. He even had a couple of trucks that he was trying to sell as well. I was interested in the 3/4 ton GMC 4x4 with truck buckets, just for the seats of course, but he wanted to sell the whole truck instead of parting it out. The truck was all but rusted away and he wanted a mint for it. He also had his grandfather's '71 stepside that had the fewest options I've ever seen on one of these trucks before, so I snapped a picture of the spid just for conversations sake.

Anyway, here are a few pictures of the grill and trucks mentioned above.
