im into the box chevys. i know pretty much nothing about these year trucks but they look awesome lol. my grandpa has an old 50 chevy dumptruck, inline six, thats been tucked away in the barn since 77. with a really solid 5 window cab(minus the floors),and front end. i was wondering if the cab on a dually dump truck is the same size as the rest of them. i wanted to do something with it but wasnt going to bother if its bigger then normal. thanks

btw i was playing around with it a while back and with new plugs, coil, wiring, plug wires, fresh gas in a lawnmower tank, battery and some patience i got her started!. not great but at least it ran. lol

I'm pretty sure that the cabs are the same size, but I'm not 100%.

Those old 6's are awesome engines, so I've read. I wish I would have kept mine.

what i want todo down the road is put the 50 cab on my 85 frame.. is that do-able? or would it be a pain..

I guess that most of us have original frames with either king pin, Mustang II, clips (Nova, Camaro, Pacer, etc.) front ends. Some have aftermarket frames, S10 frames and I'm sure some from the '80s frames. I think most newer frames I've seen are 4x4 AD's.

The cabs are the same size as the lighter trucks. The front fenders, hood, grill are larger on the 1.5 ton and up.

As for putting that cab on a dually dump, yes it can be done but just because you can do it does not mean it should be done. Most of the attempts I have seen at putting an AD cab on a 73-up frame have looked like abortions. If you use the larger fenders though that may mitigate many of the visual problems.

Maybe you could just put the bigger fenders and hood back on the truck so it doesn't look like an "abortion"? Just a thought.

well im noot sureif i want to do it yet it was just a thought. i might leave it a dually dump truck and make her a rat rod.not sure yet just getting some ideas

I have heard the newer frames and axels are too wide. lots of guys doing the cheep s10 conversion. I think the amount of work for the s10 and upgrading your original frame are about equal. it's a lot to do. don't get me wrong i enjoyed the mods to my frame. what about a lowrider dump truck...?

I'd like to see this. There were pictures on here last year or so of a task force done this way and I though it was pretty cool.

if i keep the origonal frame, i would want the dump bed to still be functional. if i felt the body/interior origonal, would it be hard to lower that rig of a truck and still be a decent driver? i will get some pice up hopefully in the next few days
