Hi, any big difference that would keep me from swapping my '67 C10 onto a '71 GMC frame w/ 5 lug hubs and p. disc brakes?--- both short bed......... found a parts truck pretty cheap. comes with some good stuff and some junk I don't need. THANKS in advance

Everything should change over okay, except the 71 frame uses different rad support mounts. Need 69-72 mounts. Also the gmc might be leaf springs. Which wont matter as far as parts fitting.

Thanks John, that's good news......... bad news is that I "snoozed and loozed" AGAIN. The guy gave me first shot at it and I rode about 35mi. to see it. I looked at parts scattered all over his shop and chickened out. I called him today and he thinks it's sold ------- serves me right. Said if his buyer don't show he'd call me back. I KNEW his truck was cheap enough that I could scrap or give away the stuff I don't need and still didn't buy it. Just hated to drag more junk home.

I got the '71 GMC parts truck... the buyer got some sheetmetal parts and stuff I don't need and re-sold the truck to me--- same price. He loaded it, towed it 60mi. home and then towed it 100+mi. to me and worked his A$$ off helping me put it in the shop.... REALLY GOOD GUY.
Is there a good reason not to use the frame with the leaf spring rear? Looks like the previous owner took a lot of time and effort cleaning and painting the frame. Sometime during it's life an aux. gas tank was installed in the rear. I have an 8.5 bolt 3.42 posi Nova rear end---- how wide are the spring perches on the truck? Are there front brake rotors that have the same lug pattern as the Nova rear? The goal is a nice stock appearing but lower '67 stepside with a pretty lumpy big block and a muncie 4spd. . P.S, P. disc., vintage A/C. I have an engine and transmission. How much should this truck weigh completed? It doesn't need to be a race truck just sound like one and be able to blast the tires good to play and show off. Thanks in advance for advice and ideas.

Leaf/coil really no difference. Most are probaly familiar or use to the coils, but I have driven both and see no real difference.

The axle width is different between your 67 and the 71. Overall the axle is about 1.5" wider. The spring perches are different from later model rear ends. As fars as the Nova's, I don't know. I know the bolt pattern is different, and Nova's havd some tiny brakes, so I would say no, don't put the nova rea in there. Trade it to get a differnt set of gears than what is in the 71's now.

Bill, I looked at your build thread........ I think the tank in the rear of my GMC parts truck is a blazer tank, looks like yours. How much gas do they hold? I see I'll have to "invent" a fuel filler for the stepside bed. Your build thread doesn't inspire me to attempt to do the bodywork/paint myself.

I have heard anywhere from 18-20 gallon for the tank. I have not been able to test it yet, but I am guessing 18.

These two threads will give you an idea of how much simpler the install is for a stepside.
