Need tips on installing side glass and.....

Got my replacement side window today. Decided to go with just the glass and not an assembly (for now) Any tips to install ?


And...............Just wondering about the front axle height. If I go with a drop axle 3" and mono leafs 4" I have read there is a possiblity of bump steer.
I don't want bump steer, it MUST be safe ! I would like to see a 7" drop as it sits pretty high now. I am still liking the idea of the straight axle.
Any thoughts ? Thanks !

I assume you are talking about the 49 AD panel. I would go to stovebolt.com and do an archive search. There are a bunch of tips on glass installation there.

They do have lots of good stuff. I did look at there tech tips as well as searched. They have a very odd (to me anyway) search over there.
I just went at it today and it went well.
Surprised at how solid this old beater is.

Once I started tearing into it it was obvious how it went together/ came apart. Since I am just giving it protection from the elements I didn't bother with painting anything or replacing weatherstrips.

Not sure what happened there(user error no doubt) I'll go back to what works .
More pics, in the 1st and 2nd pics you can see what helped the job go smooth. The little punch helped dislodge the collar/nut from the frame.
The glass run was pretty beat up but I put it back anyway. It was held in
by clips and 2 screws I am not so sure the screws were factory because there where lots of holes but only 2 screws and only 2 screw holes in the w/s

Last pic shows it almost done, still need to put outside trim piece back on.

Also got the fuel pump installed but need more hose to try and start it.

If you have a straight axle you will have bump steer. No getting around it.

If you don't have the new window channel give Wes a call at http://www.classicheartbeat.com/ He doesn't show it in the catalog but I am pretty sure he has the correct channel to fit the metal framed glass. His shop is an easy run for you down I 5 too.

On the bump steer, it's pretty common and you may want to put a steering dampener on the truck The same thing almost all the Jeep boys run on their rigs when they go to big tires. Not a total cure but it will help. From experience, wider tires,offset rims, lowering the truck or altering the steering to clear a V8 amplify the bump steer.

I'm o.k. with normal issues with having an old truck. I just want to be sure I
take the right steps to keep it safe as possible.

I did talk to Wes, nice guy. When I am ready to retore/rod the thing I'll be
spending some time at his store I am sure.
He had a good idea re: fuel tank, going poly. I am thinking that through and do plan on checking out those at his shop.
