Sway bars?
Does anyone with a 67-72 4x4 run sway bars, either front or rear. I assume you could retrofit from the newer years? I assume that it would not do as well off road but might be better on road. You could always use ord disconnects for off road.

Re: Sway bars?
i just added a sway bar to the front of my '71. i used 2 short sections of 2x4 box tubing, traced the contours of the front cross member on one closed end of each piece, cut the trace out with a plasma cutter, lined up a set of brackets with new bushings, drilled holes on the opposite closed end, and bolted it in. I was done in about 3 hours including coffee drinking. I plan on using ORD disconnects as well. -steve

Re: Sway bars?
Steve, could you post a picture?
I just figure most of my time will be on road when my truck gets finished, but I have a sway bar kicking around so I might as well use it. I figure I could always add disconnects. Any body run a rear? I have one that was added onto a 14 bolt that I had. The brackets seemed pretty cheesy (hose clamps if I remember correctly). I think I only have the bar and would figure a better mounting if I use it.

Re: Sway bars?
The axle tubes are a little smaller in diameter (~.2") on my '71 and '72 compared to the '73-ups I've measured which would make the U-bolts for the front swaybar mounts a little looser than intended. Is this close enough to ignore?

Re: Sway bars?
I choose to go with a pair of Speedway Engineering bars. Time will tell how they work out. No five minute job but I believe it will improve on road handling alot. Yes I will loose some offroad articulation, no disconnects at this stage.

Re: Sway bars?
From a different view!!
I have a 72 K20 and son has a 72 K10. We are replacing the front crossmember with one from the late 70/early 80, so we can run the sway bar from those years. While we are replacing that crossmember, we are installing the steering gear support plate on the frame rail. My son completed the frame /crossmember work, but not the finished product. Thanks, Dan |

Re: Sway bars?
Thanks,
I figure I will use my front bar. I will need to make mounts for where it attaches to the frame. I think I could make my own disconnects. I think that I am missing many pieces from my rear bar. I cannot figure how it would attach. Some time i will try to post a picture of what I have.
