Leak on front diff. area
I have a 98 GMC 4x4 that has developed a small oil leak on the RH side of the front diff. It is leaking around what looks like a eletric solenoid/housing. I don't have a service manual yet so I thought I would ask here fro some advise. How does this come apart? and is there an o-ring in there or does the solenoid have to be changed?? is the oil coming from the diff. becuase it doesn't look like gear oil.
Thanks |

Re: Leak on front diff. area
It sounds like the actuator from your description.I`ve never had to service mine,so I don`t have any tips.I believe it`s pretty simple because they sell manual activators for the average Joe to install.I`m sure it`s an o-ring or gasket. What does the fluid look like?Is it way thinner than gear lube?

Re: Leak on front diff. area
Yes it is thinner then gear lube. This the a separate housing that has a lighter oil in it??
