Changing out Shocks
Gonna be changing out the shocks on my '69 C-20, any tips I should be aware of?

Re: Changing out Shocks
remove and replace. oh and i would soak down the bolts in PB blaster the day before. and maybe new bolts for when you put the new one on or chase the treads with a die and run a tap through the bolt to clean out dirt and rust.

Re: Changing out Shocks
Sounds good. Just didn't know if I was going to be under the truck fighting to compress the shocks or not. Have a tap and die set so I'm good there. Ordered some KYB Gas a Justs, so looking forward to the new ride quality

Re: Changing out Shocks
Those white KYBs are stiff. They will come with a band on them holding them compressed. It's easiest to bolt the top mount on, then have the lower bolt ready so when you cut the band and the shocks start to extend, you can control it and get the lower mount pinned into place.

Re: Changing out Shocks
Are they too stiff? I really have nothing to go by, original shocks are what's on there now.

Re: Changing out Shocks
Yeah like what TX firefighter said, you can compress them but let the shock the work and just push a bolt through real quick. Those shocks should do you just fine.

Re: Changing out Shocks
Gas-a-justs are too stiff IMO.... The GR-2's are better suited for our trucks.

Re: Changing out Shocks
Hmmm. The KYB website isn't showing a GR-2 for the rear of a '69 C-20 with coils. Summit is showing a GR-2 for the rear but doesn't say if coils or leafs. Maybe I'll just run GR-2's in the front.
