Ebrake question for rear disc conversion..?
What does everyone do for an ebrake if using chev calipers? I tried to track down a set of caddy ones but got the wrong ones ordered twice. I heard about a transfer case brake of sorts but i cant find any info about it. Help?

Carry a brick shove it under a wheel when you park.Unless you got a stick i wouldn't be too worried about it i can't remember the last time i used my e brake ain't even sure it works.

I think a lot of people use Cadillac seville rear discs that have an ebrake that'll work. I don't remember the years.

yup as i said i tried to get the 77-78 calipers but they keep giving me 79 which are smaller and dont fit the diy4x brackets. Im using 74 chev 3/4 ton 4x4 calipers.

You lower your truck enough to lay frame and when you park all you do is air it out..... frame on ground = parking brake.

The whole point of an actul functional "Emergency" brake is that it does NOT rely on the hydraulic system...so it stiil works in the event of a hydraulic failure. That is why they are usually cable operated.

Oh, I know what you are saying SCOTI, but even with dual reservoir master cylinders and proportioning valves that block off the failed end...those first few "panic pumps" and losing half of your braking power? You may get it stopped before you hit something or someone? maybe not?
One would hope that with "automotive enthusiasts" the maintenence of the braking system would prevent hydraulic failures, but that is why they call it "Emergency", you just never know.

My line loc only holds for 30 seconds during the burnout. At least that's what the instructions said. I've never done a 30 sec. + burnout.

We used a hydraulic lineloc (you can get them designed for park brakes) on one of our tow trucks, it only uses power to block the line then the pressure holds it, out truck was only used once a month or so and it never drained the battery

I believe it is 79 Eldorado rear calipers that are the direct bolt with E brake match for the truck fronts. At that is what is suggested for the brackets I have been looking at for my Dana 60 8 lug.

Ive seen people use the motorcycle rotor on the rearend yoke and use the moto brake lever that locks closed with a pin. that still uses hydraulic but its a different line.
Theres also other street rod kits that use the same type system. |

They have both the large and smaller (metric) parking brake calipers. For those yet to do this swap they have the brackets if you don't care to build your own. They have e-brake extensions to reuse the stock cables. I've also seen cables from CPP. Jason |

The application for the calipers with integral e-brake is 76 to 78 Eldorado only. 12" diameter 1.25" thick rear rotors with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern.
For 8-lug use the truck 1.25" front rotors. For 5 on 4-3/4 bolt pattern use C3 Corvette 11.75"x1.25" front or rear rotors.

The C3 Vette (65 to 82) has both power and manual brake versions of the master cylinder with different piston bores so if you are running manual 4-wheel disc you can get the right MC so they work right from that application.
With power brakes you can also use the 76 to 78 Eldorado MC and prop valve and have enough fluid volume for four large piston calipers. The C3 Vette was balanced well enough they did not use a prop valve on them.
