Re: 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel drive?
I have no experience with this, but I'll throw my 2 cents out there.
If it were me and I had the 4wd Suburban I'd find a 2wd pickup(assuming that's easier to find than a 2wd 'burb), and swap over the 2wd running gear from the pickup to the Suburban, then put the 4wd running gear on the pickup and sell pickup. Surely it would be a bolt-in swap. But again, I have no experience in this so someone can correct me if the parts don't simply swap.

Re: 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel drive?
I am not sure on this but i think '64 was the first year GM built Factory 4x4s
If the body and price are right I'dd grab it of course as soon as you unload it from your trailer you will find a deal on a 2WD

Re: 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel drive?
Even though I haven't done it, I don't see why it wouldn't be doable. Remove the front axle, springs, steering, etc and then bolt in a '73-'87 disc brake front suspension. You might have more holes to drill than if it were a 2wd, but there's plenty of help here to get it figured out. Of course you would want to install a '73-'87 rear end to match the front.

Re: 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel drive?
The rear will have leaf spring, on these years GM installed factory blocks, just remove the blocks and the truck will be at stock 2wd ride height. The transfer case is a divorce set up so the trans is the same as a 2wd, you can just remove all the transfer case, drive shaft, linkage and then have a drive shaft made.
Captainfab is correct on the front just swap out a 72 to 87.
