Length and Weight of a '69 suburban?
I looking to do a trade with my '65 nova wagon for a '69 1/2ton engine and tranny less suburban. My question is what is the length and weight of this thing. It has a full interior all that its missing is its engine and tranny. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Length and Weight of a '69 suburban?
weight should be between 4500 and 5000 with no drivetrain. as for lenght.....18 feet. so many people complain that a suburban is too long which is crock because it is the same length as a full size pickup with a standard cab and 8 foot bed. the longer body makes for good cargo space, even with 3 rows of seats.....something those "crammed bodyline" 4 door tahoes can't compare with. the burb is the original truck/wagon (aka sport utility) and is the longest continuously running model in automotive history, dating back to 1935 (2 years prior to the volkswagen beetle prototypes).

Re: Length and Weight of a '69 suburban?
5500 sounds more like it. my dad said he put his 72 1/2 ton burb 2wd on an industrial scale back in the 80's and it weighed about 5100 pounds. so i figure my 3/4 ton is probably about 5300-5400. compare that to modern trucks that weigh 6k and up due to all the insulation, safety devices and luxury extras. performance is as much about low weight as high horsepower/torque. a classic suburban still has enough mass to give it sure footing for towing big trailers and other duties.

Re: Length and Weight of a '69 suburban?
Bringing this back from the dead. number 98s info says around 4k, and a few posts have turned up 5k plus. Im picking up my grandfather in laws 73 2wd small block, and u haul is stating their max load is 5290lbs. Will I be ok? Id rather not overload a rented trailer. I put the burb in their thing and it said it was not recommended.

Re: Length and Weight of a '69 suburban?
It will be from San Bernardino to Rodeo( 15 miles north of Oakland). I have found some bigger trailers for rent on CL for 60 bucks a day. Might end up doing that if its not a sketchy transaction. We were planning to go down there to visit the wifes grandparents anyway. Her grandfather is giving me the burb. He bought it new in 73 to pull his camper all over when he was in the military. Cool history on it.
I wouldn't mind contacting your guy just to get a quote and maybe save me all the hassle. |
