S-10 Chassis Question
Alrighty friends I have some good news work has resumed on my project. I will post some pics on my build thread at the 1st of the year. So with the good news I have a question. On the hanging shackle for the rear leaf spring there is a bushing that goes through the chassis how do I remove it? I would like to replace it or should I just leave it? Last question can I get this part from a local auto parts store? Thanks for your help you guy’s rock. More questions to come.

That metal lip around it in your picture, that's a sleeve that is pressed in. You can either try to press that out, or do it the easy way by starting the rubber on fire, letting it burn for a while until it softens up, then pushing out the middle with a punch and then make a relief cut in the sleeve with a sawzall and punch it out. Pretty easy job.

So I take it I would have to have it pressed back in correct? Who does that and what do you guys think it would cost to have that done? As you can see the rubber is pretty dry rotted so should I keep it or take it out? What do you guys think?

Personally, I drilled holes in the rubber all the way around, then punched out the center, then used a punch to drive out the pressed in collars. In the end, I replaced all my rubber bushings with Energy Suspension ones (black).

In the next week I plan on starting to work on my 10 bolt rear-end, and need some guidance. The rear-end is complete with no leaks and was working when I received it so my question is what do you guys recommend me changing on it? Example wheel bearing, seals, etc… I do plan on putting a locker in it so when I have the rear cover off I will replace it with a nice shinny chrome one, but I will leave the gears alone. Thanks in advance for helping a rookie out. Oh and I will be adding Speedway Motors disc brake kit on it to replace the original drum brakes.

What are you guys using for shocks & are you guys using sway bars? I will be installing Belltech's 3" lowering leafs. Does anyone have any recomendations?

On the rearend that I used, I ended up pulling the axle shafts out and replacing both seals (5 bux each) and the seal around pinion (10 bux). All in all $25 for the whole works and peace of mind for quite awhile. It gives you a great opportunity to check the bearings for scoring, overheating and the shafts as well. One thing to check while you have it apart is to ensure the vent for the axle is clear, if you have to clean it out you can get something inside to catch the crap.
Since you're converting to disc, your brake parts are all new, so no biggie there. And I used stock shocks, but I only put Belltech's 2" lowering blocks in mine (I intend to replace the springs later, or have them re-arched). Cheers, Ted. PS It's always been my philosophy to do it right the first time while you have it all apart and right in front of you than to do it half assed and have to come back, pull it all apart and redo it right the second time.
