MII dropped spindles and 4 link
I'm starting to feel like a minority here, you S10 guys have got a lot of cool projects going. I wanted to keep the cab mounted as it was stock, also I wanted a stock bed. I wonder if I'm really the minority here or are there just more guys writing about the S10 cause there's so much more work you have to do?

the s10 is an fairly easy swap. lost of guys are doing them because it is less welding and cheaper too. you can pick up a s10 truck for a few hundred bucks. buy or build the mounts for the body. the cost depending on which way you go could be cheap or really cheap so putting a f$%d m2 on the front and 9 or8.8 in the rear can get a little pricey depending on you budget or even where you live. i did the s10 swap to my 53 gmc because my orignal frame was tweeked pretty bad behind the cab. i guess it is all a matter of how much F$%d do you want to put in you gm. as for me i think i'll keep as much F$%D out of my gmc as possible.

steve i'm part of your minority.... i like the stock frame only modified. something about knowing your driving more than just 50 year old sheet metal... i understand why people do the s10 thing and i don't blame them i just prefer the old school route... i am no purest thats for sure.

Steve, I am also with you...we did the MII and 9inch, but with springs not bags. Dad wanted old school springs....said he didn't trust the bags...lol.

MII here as well but I don't have any F@%d in my truck, I have Heidts as MII only refers to the geometry.
Maybe we should call it something else like "Dorf" or "Fiord" or maybe "Fraud"? |

Gentlemen,
I too have the F*%d MII from Heidts. In retrospect, the S 10 might have been easier, as I spliced two frames together to make one. Both tweeked on different ends. I personally hate frame swaps. I think they usually look like S&!t when they are done. I like the looks of a "stock" style frame under the body. Stock style means fitting well, usually square tube. I also don't care for Camaro front stubs, way too bulky for me. Yes I spent waaaayyyy more money this route, but what the hell........... |

Stevehsd I think s10 swaps are popular but still the minority by far. My next project will be one of these trucks and yours is a great inspiration. I've been obsessing and researching the frame options for months and I really do feel that the pros and cons balance out in the end. It really comes down to which resource you have more of - time or money?
That said, my preference after setting aside the time/money considerations is the front subframe with a 4 link or triangulated rear. My feeling is that this is a better foundation for resale and if you want to take the truck to another level in the future. I am leaning towards a Scott Danforth subframe because of the G-body/S10 components and cost. I will also probably use a 4 link kit from a place like ***************** because of selection and cost. On the other hand...if I happen to find a few perfect bodies with no frame (seen 2 lately) for a good price than an S10 swap might be a better choice.

if I did it again I'd use 2x4 and build a whole frame. Still a toss up on what front end I'd use though.
