Anyone ever put a 67-72 front end under a 55-59?

The question I have is what did you run into for issues? I have a 67 front end sitting here from an 80k mile truck with new brakes etc. We need to get rid of the old straight axle under the 55. So, I it lookes like it goes in just like the aftermarket ones so I figured I would give it a shot before i just whack off the rails and go for the subframe.


So, anyone ever done this? If so what did you run into? if not.. why not?

I'm no expert on this but I have seen mostly Camaro, Mustang and Pinto clips used on trucks of that era. Maybe someone who has actually grafted a 67-72 clip on a 50's Chevy truck can help you out. Anyone?

Very Cool.. I'm sure it will be pretty close to doing it like that. Looks like its probably about the same amount of work as doing a subframe.

I grafted a complete front frame from a 79 gmc onto a 59 gmc. Zee cut the frame under the cab on the 59 and matched it up to the 79. THe frames are almost dimensionally the same. IIRC about 1/8 " difference in height. Square it up and weld it together. Had to build mounts for the radiator cradle though and cab mount. Only problem was the track width is wider. Used 15x6 rally wheels to keep tires tucked in. Sorry no pics.

the idea im having right now is to narrow or widen the OEM crossmember to slide right up around the factory frame of the 55.

It looks like the crossmember just sits on the bottom of the frame and the upper a-arm mounts just bolt on the outside. So, from the earlier post it looks like the 67 width will be alittle wider. So, if i cut the center section and narrow it to fit the oem width of the 55 it should tuck the 15x7's that way.
