Question What is the average cost?.......

Well as my luck would have it, BOTH my alternaters went dead yesterday. (1) 100 amp - (1) 80 amp. What would be the average cost to replace both of them?

It would be cheaper to rebuild them I bet and it's not hard at all. You should be able to get the parts at your local O'riely. It's been a while since I priced high amp alts., but rebuild kits have always been cheaper. I've had to rebuild an alt. in my front seat on the side of the hwy snowing with only basic hand tools, so it's not hard.

Man thats some crappy luck. You sure something else didnt go wrong? Anyways its gonna be pricey! like several hundred bux at the very least, based on my experience of trying to find a high amp alternator...

I say rebuild em or at least have em rebuilt.

Heres what it cost.....

I found a guy in Richardson that was actually open on Sat that was willing to wait for me after he closed to set me up. His name is Fritz Wilkinson-Owner at Midwest Electrical. He set me up with 2 alt's exactly how I needed them and even peaked and tuned the 100 amp alt to puit out more amps at lower rpm's for high powered stereos and winches! After all was said and done it only cost me $185.11!! I was suprised. I told him about you guys and our local club, The Southern Bowties and he said if any of us needed anything, he would give us a discount. So just mention my name and the Southern Bowtie Club. He also does starters and distributors and just about anything else electrical. Heres the numbers if anyone is interested or needs them. Local: 972-680-8322 and Toll free: 888-617-7331

Yes, I got 2 different ones from him. He even took the larger studs off my old ones along with the gauge feed lead and put them on the new ones so it would work exactly like my old ones did. Remember he closed at 4:30 pm but we were up there till almost 6pm since he was tweaking and testing the 100 amp to put out more amps at lower rpm's. Almost forgot, his email is midwest@airmail.net .

Cool! It's rare to find people like this guy that will stay after normal working hours for a customer.
