The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Not sure if an R/V truck is ok for this discussion, but this is the factory setup (MY6 4 speed OD manual trans):

Re: Anyone running a 4spd and bench seat? pics of shift levers?

I was having problems with my shifter hitting the seat. It's a Saginaw with a Hurst shifter. I removed the shifter arm and welded the arm off an original top loader.

Here you can see how I welded it at a forward angle to miss the seat.

At the risk of jacking this thread I wanted to ask on a similar note, if a high hump tunnel is required if you are going from a three speed column to a three speed floor shift(manual)

Awesome! I always wanted a Hurst shifter. Kinda pricey for the better Mastercraft one, but I hear it is worth it.

Re: Anyone running a 4spd and bench seat? pics of shift levers?

I don't have the pics up yet but I have a M21 with hurst shifter, and a 40/20/40 bench from a late model truck. I welded up a z that moved the lever forward 2-1/2 inches. There is a shifter that hurst makes for tri-5 chevys with a muncie and a bench the part number is 3913780 but they won't sell just the lever you have to buy the entire shifter. I couldn't afford that for now and my shifter works fine so I just made the piece, been banging gears ever since no problem.

Re: Anyone running a 4spd and bench seat? pics of shift levers?

FYI. I know this is an old post.. But, there is no way you can run a bench seat with a Muncie m20 and a hurst comp plus shifter in these trucks. I am pretty sure hust does make a shifter for tri five Chevys that moves the handle forward two inches & that may work. But I read all these posts. Then I put a sbc350 with a Muncie m20 in my truck.. And I had to ditch the bench. It wasn't even close. Maybe if you notch the bench seat frame? Or maybe if you get a wicked small bench seat out of like a bratt. I ended up using abpair of junkyard buckets out of a Saturn..

Hmm. I have a 350 with an sm420 behind it and have had no problem with my shifter clearance. The 350 is even all the way back to the point its almost touching the fire wall.

The tri five shifter works great. I have one somewhere I will take a pic when I get a chance. Unfortunately it has no linkage so it's useless.

The SM420 is a top loader truck trans. the car trans shifter bolts to the side of the tail shaft. and comes out under the front of seat.
