69 Panel build up
I purchased this 69 panel up in northern oregon from a board member here, and kodiak from my 6.7cummins forum (http://6.7cummins.com) was up in the area and picked it up for me. I am out of town in Mammoth right now but he had to make a pickup up here so I told him I would meet up with him when he got here and I got to see my new truck finally. It's a little rougher than I was told in regards to the rust...but I guess it's not uncommon for a 40 year old truck in a high moisture environment.

Re: 69 Panel build up
that ram can handle it. I've got the same motor in mine, I hardly notice my trailer behind me most of the time.

Re: 69 Panel build up
I dunno about what you were refering to about rust issues, but to me that is one sweet looking truck. !!!

Re: 69 Panel build up
Maybe you can post some pictures on the panel picture thread to keep it running. My new years resolution for 2010 is to learn how to post pictures. Good luck with the truck!

Re: 69 Panel build up
Great pic's Sublvr, thanks. So where's the rust hiding, hopefully not too much more work than you were planning for? I guess the pictures don't show it that well. Or maybe we're all to busy looking at the scenery?
hey olblue60, if you need any help with pictures for the other panel thread just let me know-i'm no computer wizard but i could size them an upload anything you may want to email me. |

Re: 69 Panel build up
few more pics now that she's home
after a couple start ups it wouldn't start any more, had to jump it once it started I found out why, alternator was only charging at 12v and the battery wouldn't hold anything over 12v when the jumpers were removed. Removed the old 3 on the tree shifter removed this ugly thing much better |

Re: 69 Panel build up
great close up pics man. Now I can really see what you're saying about it having some rough bits. So did you just put a new shifter on the column or is that the first move for an alternate transmission?
It looks good parked there...sits nice and level at least. |

Re: 69 Panel build up
Yeah, I wasn't told about all the "fixed" rust areas that were fiberglassed over. But for the price I can't really complain.
The 3 on the tree linkage wasn't hooked up, the PO put a floor shifter in it. I don't really like the 3 speed at all so I might be looking to do an auto swap or maybe a 4 speed. |

Re: 69 Panel build up
Yeah, i hear ya on the 3 speed....overdrive would be nice. Mine had the floor shifter but after i replaced the floor pan i couldn't bring myself to cut a hole in it so i'm back to a 3 speed column shifter. The first thing I have to do when i get it from storage is rig up the column shift better, i'm finding it quiet a challenge. Plus the after market shifter i bought fits kinda sloppy in the column- if you ever want to sell the one you removed let me know, i'd be interested if it's in good shape.
Gotta agree the asking price still seems fair; even seeing those close ups. |

Re: 69 Panel build up
do you just need the shifter arm or the whole linkage assembly?

Re: 69 Panel build up
I just need the arm and whatever pin holds it in (if the pin is special). It took a lot of looking 'round my area but i have all the linkage and i've made it a functional column shifter but i'm thinking it may work better with the proper factory arm. The only factory arms 'round here i saw were all kinda rusty.

I dropped the pin somewhere, not sure where it is, but if you want the shifter it's yours. Just cover shipping and it will be on it's way. |

Re: 69 Panel build up
Sublvr, that's a super nice offer which I'd be happy to take you up on!
I don't know what a factory shifter arm would go for but I feel kinda bad just taking it from ya..... |

Re: 69 Panel build up
no worries, it would just sit in my garage collecting dust. I'd rather see it go to someone who can use it rather than have it do nothing in the garage.
Let me see what postage would run to Ontario. |

Re: 69 Panel build up
i put a stock replacement alternator in my 72 burb just to be safe. the battery is out of my 89 lesabre and fits great and has a couple years of life left. i did have to replace the external regulator last summer when i couldn't keep power in the battery. the original is mechanical and the replacement i found at a local parts store looks just like it but is lower profile and electronic. the sucker mounts on the back side of the radiator support on the driver side. i'd say replace that first if you are having charging issues. i actually had my truck diagnosed at a local napa.
