Corvette IRS?
Anybody done or thought much about adapting a Corvette IRS assembly? It seems like you can find a complete rotor-to-rotor rear end at swap meets for around $500. Considering how expensive it seems to be to find a limited slip, and then get it installed; or find a posi rear end in the first place (seems like $300-500, if you can find them any more for a coil spring rear) I was wondering about all the bracketry to just install a Corvette IRS. Nearly all of the IRSs came with posi, and you get disk brakes, albeit 5 on 4.75 bc.
I'm thinking of the Corvette IRSs that don't incorporate the trans into them btw. I've run across late 70s and early 80s that seem to be inexpensive. |

Re: Corvette IRS?
I'm doing one after I finish my current backhalf. Check out rokcrln's tahoe build. This will give you an idea of what it takes.

Re: Corvette IRS?
I modded my rear frame to mount up the corvette irs(1994), learned alot. I pretty much know what not to do now!!
I used a modified step notch, and custom fabbed all the mounts. I couldnt find anyone that made a "kit" for it that didnt involve laying frame. The intent of my truck is more along the line of protouring and not air bagging. I bought the whole corvette setup front and rear for around $1200 if I remember right. I used no limit for the front cross member and built my own rear set up. I can post some pics if your interested and let you know what not to do! One of the major drawbacks is the incredibly high gear ratio - most were 3.08 or higher, and the added cost of finding a dana 44 instead of the lighter duty dana 36.

Re: Corvette IRS?
I'm working on a complete front and rear Corvette setup. My front end is mostly done with the mock up stage but the rear isn't really started yet. As mentioned above Nate at Porterbuilt has tackled this swap many times and in different ways. Here is the project of Nate's that made me fall in love with this idea: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=203958&page=2
