Gas tank on driver side has a problem!
I just bought my son a 87 SWB chevy truck, 350 EFI, the guy I bought it from told me not to use the drivers side gas tank, said the fuel pump on the tank needs replaced. My question is does both tanks have fuel pumps due to the EFI? Or is there just one common fuel pump for both tanks, and some thing else is wrong?
If so what could it be that the drivers side tank will not deliver fuel to the engine? I would like to get this tank workable again. So please help me out on what to look for. Thanks, Sam

each should have an electric pump, TBI engines

you sure its the pump? or could it be the switch?... switch is the easiest of the two to fix..

electric pumps are only in tanks on FI vehicles

yep, there is a electronic sending unit in each of the tanks, but i would also check the switch, when you switch tanks does the gas guage change or not?

Thanks for the help guys! Man I just bought this truck two days ago, the guy I bought it from said it was the fuel pump. To tell you the truth, I have not put any gas in that tank due to what he told me, I will check out the switch over switch on it. Then get back with you guys on this. So if I switch tank and the gas gauge moves say to full to mt ( due to not haveing gas in that bad tank ) Then what you are telling me is that it is probabley the pump in the tank?

I would place $5 in the driver side tank. Then go home and flip the switch to the driver side. If the truck sputters and dies even with you pressing on the pedal (some bad gas could still be in there) to give it more gas then your valve itself, the fuel pump, or the wiring is bad to the fuel pump. Let us know what you find out and we can give you steps to diagnose from there.
