Dana 60 (Dodge)
I have a chance to get a set of Dana 60 front axles for my chev truck they are Dana 60 from a 1993dodge 2500 deisel truck the guy says they are kingpin. Are these axles good strong axles. I no the newer axles are not as stong and was wondering if these are good for my 1980 3/4 ton chev. Lookin to do some muddin street driven and runing 40's. Any info on these would good.

Re: Dana 60 (Dodge)
Pretty much the same as a Chevy 60, but there are some differences. Uses the same brakes, rotors are thinner than a GM. Lines will go on the same. Shock tabs are different, if you got a welder then it's an easy fix. Not sure if you can bolt up the GM shocks to the Dodge or not, never tried. The u-joint IIRC is different, could use a conversion joint. Can't remember if the steering arm has the same taper as a GM one, but not hard to fix. Sounds like a lot, but it's not....

Re: Dana 60 (Dodge)
Dodge spring pads are 1/2 inch wider than Chevy but that's not that big of deal just bolt the one side in and then push springs apart. And yes GM shocks will bolt up to Dodge axle. If you are getting the set I would only ese the front axle since the full float 14 bolt is stronger than a 60 rear.

Re: Dana 60 (Dodge)
So this Dodge dana 60 axle is a strong desireable axle it would be a good replacement for my 10 bolt. I understand there are good 60's and weaker 60's just checking to make sure it would be a good buy.

Re: Dana 60 (Dodge)
The only "weak" spot on 60s is the inner axle shafts. They taper down in the middle, but in the 80s they didn't have that, so your particular 60 won't have that. Other than that, not too many weak points in a 60.
Oh, what lockouts do you have?? External or internal???

Re: Dana 60 (Dodge)
I am going to pay $1000 CDN for a set of front and rear Dana 60's but I am only going to use the front I am going to use my 14 bolt rear that I have. I wish that I could find a Dana 60 for arong $500 around here (Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada). It seems like there are all kinds in the US. If I could find one close to the Buffalo boarder that would be great, everyone is trying to find good cheaper parts. Axles are hard to find around here at a reasonable price. I would also rather have a Chevy Dana60.

Re: Dana 60 (Dodge)
I have used the dodge 60 in 3 trucks now and they hold up just fine. $1000 for a matched set is a good deal and then you can still sell the 44 and 60 as a set if they have the same gear ratio

Re: Dana 60 (Dodge)
Yes I probebly will sell the spare parts, as I allready have 3 dana 44's. I won't need them anymore with a Dana 60. Do you know whether the drive shaft bolts up or do I need a special one, how about the steering arm also.

Re: Dana 60 (Dodge)
you will need a special u-joint or change out the yoke for a chevy yoke and as far as steering arm I have always bought the flat arm like is used for crossover steering or rock crawling and ran the factory link to it.
