help with sbc brackets - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I need help! I changed my old sbc to a crate engine. The problem is the alt. bracket does not want to line up. It appears that the bottom hole is off that goes thru the water pump. Maybe I have the bracket wrong? I don't see how but it is off as though the intake is not thick enough. Does anyone have a picture of the solid inboard style brackets? I will try and post but I am on a mac and cant get the images small enough. They are just over the limit I believe. I will give it a try to post the pics. Thanks

It worked, so if you see the bottom photo the hole is too low and if I raise it and place a bolt thru the hole the bracket lifts off the intake like the intake is not thick enough. I hope I am explaining myself well enough for you all to follow. I am making myself nuts as I know the brackets were on my last motor and were fine. Thanks again.

It's hard to tell by your photos, but the mounting that you are attempting is very ackward. I've seen some aftermarket brackets to put the alternator where you have it in the pictures, but the stock driver's side location was pre 1969 (i.e. short water pump) ... it looks (again hard to tell from you photos) that you have a long water pump (1969-1985). In that case, the stock alternator location is passenger side.

This may be where your problem is, but again it's difficult to tell from you pictures. Do you still have your old engine, if so, mount it on the old engine and see what your differences are.

I believe the brackets you're using are Alan Groves. I had the same scenario. Just put some spacers (washers) between the bracket and the intake and use longer bolts.

It jest seems odd to place the spacers but I guess that is what I have to do. I dont know if it is because some intakes might be thicker where they bolt it. I just thought that some one might be using them and have a photo to assist. Thanks again.

I just called Alan Grove and the stated that spacers ARE needed. Funny thing is I don't remember using them prior. Guess it is made for the differences in intakes and runners. PROBLEM SOLVED!
